I love Lange. I doubt there's any big group brand as consistent, exquisite and better workmanship than ALS.
I own a Cabaret RG and it's a watch that choose its owner as much as the owner choose it. At first I thought the price is crazy. Even after discount it's still high (although it sell lower than the new AP 15200). The justification I made is that it's a Lange. Lame excuse I admit.
When I gone thru day to day of wearing the watch I notice subtle details about watch. I found that the case is curve, there are lots of edge shape but nicely bevel. The proportion is perfect and the dial is pure class.
On the movement side, the winding is ultra smooth. I never experience any other manual movement like this. Better yet it use s shaped movement to match the rectangular case. That is dedication. The bridge and main plate are all german silver or Maillechort in french. This provide a slight hint of yellow hue to the plate. However there a practical reason for using this alloy. If you use a lope to check the glashutte wave or geneva stripes on the movement you can hardly better finish on the market unless you go independent like Dufour, Voutilanen or DeBethune. The price we pay for those we can easily get few more Lange.
Like I said it's a watch that choose its owner as much as the owner choose it. One thing that you won't get from Lange is attention. You can wear a 300k Lange and people who aren't into horological art are going to ignore you. They will probably notice that gold rolex or steel PP than your platinum Datograph UP/DOWN. That's all fine by the Lange enthusiast. They are low key people by nature anyway.
Another thing about Lange is the second hand value always seem low which is puzzling since Lange annual production is about 10% of PP. I guess all that is changing. I hope ALS continue to do well.
Are you thinking of one, Danny?
