Most experts will say good thing in our society especially in these circumstances
1. That brand sponsor him
2. That brand give him job like inviting him for speech, give him free to wear for review...
3. He personally like it n bought 1

Thats why even the "expert" can only speculate. But he has the means to not sell and try to prove himself right in 30yrs.

Right on, not many of us has that $$$ to do that.
Experts, being experts, are also human and speculates as well as looking at the supply-demand scenario. If most owners doesn't want to sell, and there is a demand for a particular watch, IMO the watch price will goes up. For these owners, it will be a good investment to them, but whether the retaining value of the watch is there remains to be seen.

HI,most watches when buy new n after wearing for 2or 3 yrs  the value will drop from 20% to 50% n some even to 70% depending on brand. For some models  after about eight yrs. , it will start appreciating to the value when you bought it new. these testament of time models,  they don't change much in design even from maybe 40 yrs. ago,of course the technology has improved tremendously like the materials , hairspring, balance wheel, water proofing , anti magnetic , lubricant for different parts. but not everyone will accept these watches , they will want modern design watches. Before you buy a watch maybe ask yourself, ten years down  , could i still love  this watch or if the design could survive the testament of time??

     I really like your statement of 10 years down the road, do you still love the watch you choose today. Most of the time we buy watches impulsively and never think of that. For me it is more like a love at first sight!
