r v watch nuts fell into businessman trap?
« on: December 10, 2009, 07:10:52 AM »
why i begin with this post is i read a story bout a small watch brand yesterday and our fellow member who asked me bout another internet brand still exist last month!

few yrs ago a guy started his watch business in US n germany... so he use his name as the brand of the watch, STEINHART !
steinhart started with buying watches from grovana, a small watch factory in jura swiss.... then print on their brand name...
with alot of rolex sub kinda design, with swiss eta movement, good lume, well case construction, low pricing strategy, best customer service, their business grow!
the owner is very sensitive to market trend... so he started his beobachtung watch design very early at the market boom time....
with very affordable price and good reputation in customer service.... their business is flying !

then u know whats happen? a big watch company with name of STEIN****** sue them in US for the brand name !
this case has been marked as ' BEEN BULLIED ' in some magazines' editors.....
because of the company is so small to engage an expensive lawyer..... they forced to change their name.... to DEBAUFRE
no case in germany, so they still use steinhart as their brand in german !
danny, thats why you cant find steinhart watches in its previous US webside !

yesterday i read about the owner of zinex watch company was force to change his brand name to zwc or zixen !
same old story, a big watch company in US, ***EX sued zinex for the brand name they used!
another bully case to me....

so we all are all watch nuts.... thats why i we spend our time here....

but ask yourself.... what watches mean to you?

i love watches very much.... so its a tool to company me to go up hill and down to sea... its an art piece to me because fine mechanical engineering is superb, its lifestyle to me because i can always find some good friends through watches....

Good info and thanks for sharing, Chris ;) as always

I voted "Tool", "Art" and "Life style".... I voted life style not because it reflect my status (i am just a consultant and i don't have big house and big car, so, nothing to show really ;)) but, being in love with watches change how i live my life, some way..

I meet a lot of friends (GTG especially) because of this hobby, i start talking and learn to see things from different point of view like how some of us has different opinion on a time piece... it's part of the things i learn from watches and put it in my daily life.... learn how to appreciate things and observe the good things more then something bad  Learn to voice out my own opinion and helping each other and share as much as i can...

lastly, i also learn how to let go (at the right time)... i once really regret selling some watches and end up regretting it ;( But then i got back something even much better at the end (to me) ;) That's life right? sometimes we have to make tough decision to let go something in order to acquire something even better in life...or to face the "unknown" waiting in front of us...those uncertainty, those risks...etc...which spicy up our boring life sometime ;)

Cheers!
scott

Referring to Yen's paragraph on bullying, I would say, it is business. It is about protecting my biz.  Apple (almost I think, I didn't follow up) sues Woolsworth Aus over a logo becoz the logo very similar to the real Apple logo.

yeah... Darwin's Rule: survival of fittest. One day when they become big, they will too cannibalize other brand. Watch industry is still a big returning business.

For watches I'll choose as "art piece".   :)

Especially mechanical watches, from as cheap as a Seiko 5 up to the most expensive PP, I regard them all is one hell of engineering marvel. Imagine hundreds of parts joining together in a small case, it keep telling time just by the moving your wrist or manual winding it. If it is well taken care of, surely it will last till the generation comes.
