hey guys...sorry to dig up this topic...

but i just got a sub in immaculate condition - except the lume on the markers (T-Dial) is quite weak...tho I can still see it in the night (even-light) when my eyes have adjusted...

but during the day, the lume can be bright after 'charging' (cos the phospor reacts to the UV charge), but only last for about 10 secs before it goes to the low-light lume again (then stabilizes).

Curious, is there any one who re-lumes tritium paint in Malaysia? (maybe I can start a biz...and be the next Avenger thx to radiation  ;D)

Not that i can afford it (i bet it'll cost a Bomb even if it's available), but just curious.

Thanks & Cheers

ps: the corrosion can be polished off when servicing on the original hands (tho the middle still has cracking signs). love the Patina tho...but lack lume ppl tot buy fake wan ler... :HammerHead:

Err why would you want to relume tritium dial and lose the patina? Additionally if you intend to sell the watch in the future, you will lose money on it.

If you don't knock your watch around then you shouldn't worry about the tritium flaking off.

The use of tritium as a unconsealed lume has been out outlaw around 1997. The only way to get tritium as a lume is to have them in tube.

Finding a watchmaker to have raw tritium on hand and crazy enough to do it is going to be farfetch. The radioactive substance is hazardous to health. On top of that fresh tritium is white in color and there's no guaranty that it will age and change color over time. You might end up with an undesirable watch.

If you intend to sell the watch then you're in trouble.

If you care much for the lume then maybe tritium watch is not for you as most are old/neo vintage watch. The lume are going to die soon or dead completely.

The charm of these tritium watch are the patina they develop is kind of like wine that age. Some won't age gracefully but the ones that does its beauty are beyond words. It's an acquire taste like most fine things in life.

Don't need to do too much to the watch to make it perfect or else is like manufacturing antique  :o  It makes no sense at all.

PS Since 2008 Panerai has implemented an official policy to begin replacing any non-current production PAM's with tritium dials/hands with superluminova when your PAM's are sent in for servicing at the Panerai Service Center, only if the tritium is found to be flaking or chipping off.

If you request that Panerai not touch your tritium hands/dial when your watch is in for service, Panerai will not service your watch if it sees the tritium chipping off.  So those who own any A, B, or C series Panerai watches with tritium dials and/or hands, if you wish to keep your original tritrium dial/hands, take your own risk if you send in your watch to Panerai for servicing.

Even if only the tritium on the hands are flaking off and the tritium on the dial is perfectly fine or vice versa, Panerai will still replace BOTH hands and dial to superluminova because Panerai wants matching hands and dial.

Please take care of your watch. A T Dial PAM aren't suppose to be a beater anyway. It can still be a daily watch but a beater? NO NO  :Startled:
