Watch Telling Time?
« on: September 26, 2011, 09:47:04 AM »
Remember the question :"Does a watch need to do any more than tell the time?"

The simplest of watches that can accurately tell the time is likely to be a plain and simple two handed one to twelve or the one to twelve is denoted by lines.

I find the following watch a wee confusing, to me at least, if I want to tell the time.
Any comment from the members here?

Go for it if you find one, so when others ask you "What time", you got to show and explain the time while he/she :o... :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor:

i don;t get it...all the hands are colour coded. so it's not really that hard to tell the time.

it's one cool watch... and as Chris said, if you bump into one in a pristine condition, grab it!

Gigi's example is superb

The power of marketing... in your face marketing.

The same reason why the mainlanders like Montagut so much.

Watch for a very niche market! ............. Yet, wonder why Omega can grab the pole position in China's market share, well ahead of the simpler designed & easily regconisable Rolex ............. when there are so many average Joe in red China :Laughing_on_floor:

Yes, like terence commented, it's the power of marketing. Maybe 007 also plays a part, hence many Chinese mainlanders like Omega.
Same goes for most people in Malaysia, Loleks is the no. 1 "prestige" watch, especially many uncles, apek businessman and/or elderly people who swears by Loleks.
One generation older like my uncles, all go for Loleks as the premium watch and Omega as the mid-range watch.

Yes, Chris, that 2 3 watches too. Very confusing for me to read time.
Maybe on my wrist for show, looks unique. But for time telling, use my H/P will be a better choice.

More funny looking watches:

1) Chronoswiss golden case + Wittnauer TD1393 movement = a dream watch for a geek with high IQ.

2) Pic #2 another odd-looking piece, the Otium.

3) A watch with revolutionary concept. The 12 hour cycle is strangely divided into 4 quarters. Each quarter covers a 3 hour period. Thus each time a hand completes its cycle.
