Here it is, ladies. brolex is going to outline what makes the perfect dress watch, so pay attention:

  • Very thin, so you can wear it with any dress shirt especially those off-the-shelf, non-custom made ones (yuck)
  • Austere design, no markings if possible besides the 12th position (when you're wearing a dress watch, it is definitely in the post meridiem [i.e. you don't wear dress watches during the day]; and all it matters is how far to or beyond 12 a.m. you are). Case in point:

aesthetically this is perfect, but prefer the lugs to be less chunky

  • Must be 40mm or less. Your date is the highlight of the evening, not your material possessions.
  • It has to be all black and gold, like the Movado above (except Movado does not use real gold). Black and gold is symbolic of the stars in the night skies, keeping in theme with the dress watch as an exclusive evening watch.
  • Must be self-winding. you don't wear a dress watch every night - It's for going to the occasional parties where you don't dress up in your button downs and jeans. A battery operated dress watch wouldn't be as thin, and an automatic movement is overkill.
  • As you wouldn't sweat as much when the sun's out, leather strap is classiest. Metal, rubber or fabric is unacceptable. Matte or glossy, subject to personal preference. A plus would be a strap with just one hole, with customised lengths perfect for your wrist.

So learn and return, grasshopper. Show us whatchu gots.

So, in the nutshell, the finer things in life does not have to be the most expensive or exotic item or place one could have.
