Portofino or Portugese
« on: January 04, 2011, 02:32:18 PM »
I am undecided between a Portofino and Portugese.

I like Porto because it is cheaper, has 3 dials, has date and day and comes with a metal clasp.

I like Portugese because it has a longer history and has a better design.

I also read form another forum that Portugese automatic (7 days)  has accuracy problem, is that correct?

This will be my first IWC and my first leather strap watch. So metal scrap is important to me. If I get the Portugese, I will need to purchase the metal scrap as optional.

It woud help if you are more specific on which models you are referring to: there are a number of variants for each of the range.  I would pick the Port because of the history, iconic design and in house movement (Port 7 days).

Not sure if there is metal bracelet for the Portuguese or for that matter the Portofino. I do like IWC watches but I am limited to the MK XV, older Big Pilot and the SS Vintage Aquatimer. However between the Portuguese and the Portofino, I would go Portuguese.

I assume you meant chronograph.  Portofino chronograph is quite a handsome watch.  It is almost the same size as Portuguese Chronograph but to me the Port Chrono seems to wear bigger due to its thin bezel.

Two of my favorite IWC range are Big Pilot and Portuguese - then the rest.  Port plays such as big part on the success of IWC.  To me it is still Port - with leather strap.  No bracelet for Port please!   :Praying:

Thanks for the comments. I actually meant metal clasps instead of bracelet.  Both watches are quite similar in size and style but big in price.

Portugese chrono is accurate... it uses 7750 modify which adjusted to 5 positions if i'm not mistaken... owned the Pilot chrono (which uses the same movement) and the accuracy is amazing.. +1 or +0.0x

if i don't have already the Port 7 days, i will pick this Port Chrono anytime ;) I like the white dial + gold hands :D (but a bit hard to read time)

I will go for Portugese Chrono anytime ;)

without specifics, its hard to say which group of watches are nicer.

if you compare the Vintage Collection Porto and the Port, for me the Porto wins hands down - see for yourself

but if you are talking about the regular Porto and Port, then yes the Port has nicer looking watches and more choices. The latest Port is pretty nice but I cant say too much about the sub-dial which looks like a lobang in the dial to me

for me, 7-day white face blue hands is one of my holy graisl. as for these 2, i'll simply go for the blue hands cos it is so exquisite and elegant. i owned the portofino 378302.

There may be more expensive watches but (IMHO) there are not too many more beautiful than this   ;D
But this one does not have chronograph ...

good choice!
my take from the photos:
gold one looks more expensive, yet the portugese is easily recognizable and iconic....(arsene wenger owns one!) the blue hands on a sunny day is AMAZING !
