Rolex Explorer II ref:16570 White dial 24hr Bezel
« on: February 15, 2011, 07:47:13 PM »
Any Rolex sifus familiar with this model?
I have seen alot of Reloxes and I'm only interested in the Daytona which is out of my reach at the moment.
Until I saw the Rolex Explorer II ref:16570 White dial 24hr Bezel.
I dun have any pics but it doesn't look like any Rolex that I've seen before.
I'm not a Rolex man as some might know.
The bezel is kinda different with the 24hr indicator.
Someone want's to let go of this piece and I haven't said anything yet.
Trying very hard to keep my excited face frm being shown.
But before doing anything, juz need to ask for some feedbacks.
Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, there are 3 versions of the white dial Explorer II. The normal white dial with the black hands and black hour markers. The second is the same white dial with the silver hands and silver or polished hour markers. The last is the beige or off-white (ivory) dial colour. The bezel, fixed, is the same in all three watches.

is there one with white dial and silver hands?

as i know it. EXP II first generation is 1655 aka McQueen but only with black dial and the "second" hour hand is only used to denote "day/night"

white dial first came along, if i remember correctly (in my own limited knowledge), in 16550. with "block" fonts on the fixed bezel. there is one single batch which turned "cream" colour due to the defect in the paint used. like defects in postage stamps, the prices of these "defect" batch of EXP 2 soared!!! these exp2 comes with single locking clasp like those in datejsut. also 16570 up to the 90's still have single locking clasp.

current 16570 are with dbl locking clasp but without the diver's extension. v-series till now uses 3186 calibre.

i may be wrong.. maybe some experts here can provide better info.

anyway ..i think white is the way to go for this model because a "full" white dial for a Rolex sports model is quite limited to a few models only, be it the Milgauss and EXP2. so it provides a refreshing change from the usual black dialed sports models

btw i am also looking for a white exp2.

Hey, it seems like the model I mentioned is still in Rolex's Website, meaning it's still pretty new.

Anyone know what's d retail, Rolex AD in KK very particular, when I tried to asked for a model my sister is looking for, no one gave me any attention.... well, normal lah in KK... so if anyone know the retail for this piece, lemme know and I'll see if the deal my friend gave me is a good one or not.

The Rolex Explorer II white dial started with the reference 16650. It initially had white gold hour markers and hands. Later the hands and hours markers were painted black. There was a batch in reference 16650 that had a problem with the white paint and lacquer used and the dial turned to a cream colour.

The next model is the reference 16570 which the white dial comes with black markers and hands.

The 16650 is equipped with the 3085 caliber (as used in the 16760 GMT) while 16570 uses the 3185 caliber.

The bezel from the 16550 has fatter and shorter fonts as compared to 16570.

I recently got one of the black dial 16570, chucked the bracelet and put it on a black Zulu.

Its just about the only Rolex i found attractive enough to buy, simply because it is so stealth - with a simple Zulu or Leather strap it doesnt even warrant a second glance  ;D With the 2nd Time zone i think it makes an excellent travel watch.

Another question, what does it mean by "M" Series, "Y" Series or "Z" series when it comes to Rolex watches?

the retail price for 16570 is USD 6325, so converted to RM would be around 19.3k (current rate). you should look around that price before discount

It indicate the estimated date of manufactured. i.e. x series ~ year 1991.

I'm wearing one. This is a very photogenic watch. Somehow I feel it looks more handsome in pictures.
I like it anyway, easy on the eye, can tell tell time at a glance.
