Tag Heuer CEO Resigned - new direction for Tag?
« on: December 12, 2014, 08:48:16 AM »
earlier the yr, announcement of new CH80 in house movement, new manufacturing facilities.... seems like paving way for bringing Tag heuer up their product price positioning to anohter level, then the we hear the postponed of above!

so the CEO resignation is not really surprise
after 21 yrs with the company, steering Tag Heuer to success.... who can say Tag is not successful for the past 15 yrs?
brand awareness, profit return, etc

pushing up Tag price positioning, will eventually lead Tag to go in to Zenith strong price zone ad then hublot
with J C Biver, the watch marketing genuis gripped on the group steering... dont think he will allow this to happen!

on the other perspective, as consumer

whats your thought?

Mr Biver mentioned the direction of TAG will be in the price range of USD 1500 - 5000. So we'll probably not see anymore haute horlogerie from them anymore. Anyway I think it's good for tag heuer. The brand simply doesn't have what it takes to climb up there.

To realign themselves back to what the brand originally represents is the right move. My 2 cents though.

Good for the brand because Haute Horology is not a place Tag Heuer should be.
Bad for the CEO because years of planning and all those works are gone down to the drain
Bad for watchmaker because from now on they won't be doing any real watchmaker work

Finally GOOD for consumer because we will see the return of Tag Heuer as an entry level brand (price wise). A position I'm familiar with. Tag Heuer used to be the brand that people buy when they graduate from college or got their 1st job. For the last few years it was like this due to the high price. I'm happy to be able to see that again.

A bonus maybe we will see some huge discount for the current El Primero powered piece. :)

They should focus more to making unique movements not just hentam a stock ETA inside and jack up the price.

Agree. Tag Heuer used to be the watch that normal ppl target to buy for their first "branded" timepiece. Then came the "expansion"... good and bad... but I sort of felt that they had an identity crisis... neither here nor there.

I still like their vintage pieces... has a strong and colourful history...

One of our frens just got a nice Monaco 1133b and some cool looking Carrera. I'm still looking for a certain Camaro and Monaco. It's quite fun hunting for Heuer cos got variety.

Tag Heuer Smart Watch coming soon...quote from Biver "not the big eat the small but the fast eat the slow"

Guess Swatch group would not let the LVMH to get the majority share for this "high end luxury smart watch" market, a brand under the swatch umbrella at equivalent price point with TAG would be heading towards the smart watch direction as well, but which brand would it be?  ::) Rado? Longines?

Or at brand that is lower price point: Certina, Tissot, Hamilton?

Having owned a couple of Tags, I do feel that this is where they belong. Nothing wrong with it, just don't think they have what it takes to compete head to head with the mass-market luxury kings, i.e. Rolex, Omega. I do like quite a few of their watches, but I just don't find them as refined as say a Rolex / Omega, little things like how it feels when you wind the crown, the feel of the click when they press the chrono buttons. I haven't bought any of their latest range, so their quality may have improved since, but somehow seeing a off-centre chronograph hand on a brand new watch in the boutique makes me suspect otherwise.

Some watches company tell us or brag about their advance escapement, some tell us how their watch could withstand in the magnetize enviroment, other company keep improving their gas tube, some company present the watch with 31 days power reserve. Long story short, they do something for their loyal fan.  I can hardly see any Tag Heuer R & D nowdays beside they introduce new ambassador.

I am waiting to see their tourbillon chrono pieces go for sale. Seems like its gonna cost around 15k swiss francs, which is considered cheap for what it is. More info below:
