Is thickness a concern for a day-to-day watch?
« on: July 21, 2014, 12:47:41 PM »
Hi,

A question which i think is good to gather some thought.

Would you concern about the thickness of a watch if you plan to use it for a regular day-to-day?

The two shortlisted im keen are
- IWC Portuguese Automatic
- IWC Portuguese Chronograph

I know these watches are not exactly in the same league in terms of movements, price, chronograph and etc.
But im keen towards the Automatic but i do find the thickness could be cumbersome.

Any thoughts to share?

I think the normal 3 hands automatic is thinner than chronograph.

I wear the Rolex Deepsea Seadweller everyday with office shirts and it fits under the cuffs no problem. It sometimes gets caught on the cuffs, but it's not a big deal. Thick watches are perfectly wearable everyday.

Portuguese Automatic (IW5001), thickness 14mm.

And this is one of my smaller cuffs.

No problem.

I am really into thin watches and hence, I will not wear thick watches on a working day.
In fact, thickness is one of the key consideration when buying new watches.

That's just me. Everyone has their style and preference of course.
