AP Service Centre
« on: February 25, 2014, 12:03:53 PM »
Hello guys,

Does anybody here have any prior experience with AP Service Centre in KL/Sg? I got into a small accident and my AP RO has a few, very noticeable scratches on its bezel (sigh.... I'm still very bitter about it). I just can't bear the sight of the scratches and I want the bezel polished/replaced ASAP. Here are my questions:

(1) Does anyone know how much a new bezel (39mm) would cost in KL? I called the Sg service centre and they refused to disclose the price insisting that I head down to the Service Centre to have the watch examined before they will advise.

(2) Alternatively, how much does it cost to have the bezel polished in KL? Sg Service Centre quoted 500plus (exc GST) and a six- week long wait.

(2) Also, do you know if we get to keep the old bezel if we opt to purchase a replacement? I know Rolex does not return the old bezel to the owner but not sure if AP has the same practice.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear that man.

Well, at least now you can be less careful and truly enjoy the watch, eh? I'm only half-joking , but sounds like an experience almost every watch owners have gone through. Furthermore, the brush metal surface is a scratch magnet compared to polished surface.

Scratches and dings are part of watch owning experience. Try live with it a few more weeks and see if it still bothers you. Otherwise, just wait until you collect more scratches, dings, and further war-scars and have a full service and overhaul in the future or before your warranty expires. You'll get more value for money for the service cost, and the watch will be as good as new or even better.

Some Patek owners send their watch for service and specifically request NOT to polish out some notable scars, which adds personality to the watch.

If you have it changed or polished now, remember that the next scratch is just around the corner... it is inevitable.

Thanks guys for your comforting words!

I am usually a very careful wearer but well, shit happened and the scratches kinda ruined the brushed-finish bezel. I will try to stay away from glancing at the bezel too much and see if they still bother me.

If the bezel does not cost an arm and a leg, I would be inclined to have it replaced and perhaps keep the original one as a memorabilia or a key chain.

My recommendation is to still go back to the service centre.

1. There is no service centre (yet, heard maybe will have one) in KL. Anything sent to AD or boutique in KL goes to SG. It's normal that they will ask to see/examine the watch before giving a quote for parts or service.

2. Price and time seems about right for a polish. Although they might be faster if workload is not heavy. DO NOT let anyone other than AP SC work on an AP. I've seen watches polished by 3rd party shops and the finish is awful.

2. (??) I don't think parts are returned. You could try asking. I didn't ask and didn't get any parts after my last service.

As many have said, and from personal experience, the AP bezels are very easy to ding and scratch. Before we can make more suggestions, could you show us some pictures of the damage?
