I realized a lot of the watches posted in this forum is quite expensive :o and over my budget as for right now *working hard to earn IWC*
My brother's birthday coming up and thinking of buying a Daniel Wellington watch for his birthday gift.
I'm not sure if anyone has heard of it but I just recently bought one. It's not well known but I really love the simplicity design and surprisingly very light! My friend recommended it for me.
I was considering to buy longines at first but my budget was under 1500RM. So say goodbye to longines :(
For men out there, what do you think of this watch? They do have this colourful nato strap as well but I prefer the leather one. Would you be happy receiving one?

For under RM 1.5K, I'd recommend an automatic Seiko, Citizen, Orient, Tissot, Swatch, Junghans.

you are buying for your brother? so do you think your brother like classic clean dial or those busy chrono dial?
would I be happy receiving one? of course it's free right?

Check out the Seiko SARB series. The 021, in particular, is fantastic. With the low Yen these are unbeatable value.
-
Did you bought the Daniel Wellington for RM1.5K? I hope you don't, as it only sell for 195USD online.
Actually, for much less than amount you pay for a Daniel Wellington (non rip of price), you will be better off with a Seiko 5. It is automatic, come with much useful day & date complication, easily servicable and is much more respectable among watch enthusiast. Also, you will have A LOT of different design to choose from, where DW your only option will be straps.
If I really need to push it and recommend a classy quartz, I can only half heartedly point you towards Titan Edge. It will cost you less than 195USD (buy in Malaysia), and at least you are getting the world slimmest watch (at least that is what the Indian company claimed).

I'd advise Orient or Seagull. Orient doesn't really offer Sapphire Crystal on most of their models, but they I love the Divers with power reserve. Seagull also makes some very nice dress watches. If you don't mind the Chinese brand, Seagull makes reliable, accurate automatic dress watches with sapphire crystal. There are plenty of online dealers and a nice Seagull is 500-800RM for Auto+Date (and maybe power reserve/day).

hi. I suggest you to consider the Tissot Visodate or Certina DS1. Those watch are automatic. Very elegant design and classic look. Reliable and classy with butterfly claps. You have and option also if look at the pre-owned shop. I bought a Longines Conquest automatic from pre owned shop with the budget under 2k. happy hunting!
cheers.

how old is your brother? what kind of watches suite him?
will he appreciate watches? do he really likes watches?
I mean buying a gift to your loved one is touching but sometimes I guess buying the right thing is more important.
what if he don't really care about watches? consider your 1.5K wasted
you may as well save up the budget as you are working on earning an IWC.

This one met your budget.

Thank you for all the help guys! I'm loving this forum now! Teaching me everything i need to know about watches. Appreciate it. Will look into the visodate.
He does love watches but I can't afford his range *yet* ...very expensive....:'( he's 36.
So I thought I can get him the DW since he likes leather watches and I think this one does look simple, elegant and classy. My thought was, since I can't get the expensive one, at least get him a nice one 8)
bezelnut: Nope I got it for 640RM from the Malaysian agent (which i'm not allowed to mention here) cheaper than if I had to ship it from Sweden. I did my research this time ;D

Great.

well since he's 36 then the one recommended by ck77 is a stunning piece and bang for bucks
-
Visodate is nice enough but looks and feels cheap compared to a SARB021.
-
36... Gents Spa treatment.... he.. he...
Seiko automatic then....
-
too bad he already bought the DW

Maybe you should really think over this watch gift thing since you know what he likes and you also know it's out of your budget.
If the gift you bought him is not what he really likes, will he be forced to wear and keep it just because it's a gift from you but actually not like it at all?
Maybe you could work out a "rebate voucher" with an AD where he could use to buy the watch he really wants.
BTW, nice brother you are. I stopped getting gifts after 15.... :(
