Title: Do you still feel the pain?
Post by: JPSP on June 05, 2013, 02:43:47 PM
Alright guys,

in the recent 2 weeks I've sold my GS Gmt, GO and Cartier, and managed to raise S$20k. I've an IWC to let go if anyone is interested? lol...I'm back in the game to acquire a RG luxury watch (have some in mind) but is taking my time to pull the trigger.

Now why did I start a thread on this? In the past 2 weeks, I no longer feel the kind of attachment to the watches compared to my last consolidation exercise when i felt the pain whenever i sold a watch. Are you someone who's very attached to your watches (up to point you feel a part of your flesh is gone to let it go) or have you mastered the art of "nothingness"?

I sold several watches this year including a roo rubber clad , i got over it after a short while. The only watch I didn't was a JLC memovox compressor alarm which I sold last year. I still craved for the sweet melody of the old school bell alarm, although I still have a JLC DSA alarm which sounded totally different from the ex.

James,

I remember suggesting to you that you do some meditation to gain enlightenment on why the GS Spring Drive PR needle points up when the PR is empty and points down when it's full. Guess you overachieved your target and mastered "nothingness". Hence, my most sincere congratulations.

I have not achieved your high level of enlightenment. I still feel some pain whenever I think of my old Seiko 6105 divers which I sold. Sometimes, the blue dial bellmatic (which I sold in 2006) and an NOS 6139 chronograph (sold in 2009) still return to haunt me in my sleep.

Dont feel so attached to watches when I'm selling them.
Just regret seeing at how much was wasted since selling watches are usually at a lost.

When departing it will heal fast  right after you found the new love :Laughing_on_floor: .

I do not develop any attachment to any of my watches which I have earmarked for sale if I did not buy it to commemorate a life event. Most of the time I do not have any qualms to sell my watches if it means upgrading it for a better one.

If you're a watch collector definitely you will feel the pain. I guess you're bored with the watches and looking for a new collection...

I don't know if my fellow peers go through what I call different phases of collecting or buying watches or any other high cost boys' toys...
My taste changes over time and you have different parameters as you progress or regress in this hobby.
If I decide to sell a piece, it would be because I am no longer attracted to that particular piece after a long term ownership experience of a few years. Perhaps its the look, or lack of technical excellence or poor performance or something much aesthetically nicer or technically excellent has replaced the current model.

I agree with the statement below wholeheartedly...

Maybe because your collection is still young. There are some real gurus here in this art of buy-only-no-sell-any e.g. Meoramri. His collection could probably open a mini-museum by now, and best part was he buys from all price brackets and genres. My hats off to him
