Title: Steur Watch Company - Has anyone heard of it?
Post by: madon on May 01, 2013, 04:54:51 PM
Was wondering if anyone have ever heard about this company and this brand of watches which is claimed to be produced in Swiss but I have never heard about it at all and there is no information on the net as well. I found this brand of watches being sold at [AD name removed - Mod] in Pavilion KL and the worker there claimed it to be made in Swiss but I am rather sceptical due there is no "Swiss Made" print (only Swiss) and inside the casing (yes, he did open it up so that i could see) is written Swiss Parts and Ronda Movement. Hopefully sifus here could share your thoughts with me.

Thanks!

I have not heard about Steur watch and have no personal experience with this brand. A Google search yielded irrelevant results, but Google did suggest Stauer Watch as an alternative search.

If you are referring to Stauer Watch (https://www.google.com/search?q=steur+watch+company&hl=en#safe=off&hl=en&q=stauer+watch+company&spell=1&sa=X&ei=sbWBUe7fEsrMrQeTr4CACA&ved=0CC4QvwUoAA&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.45921128,d.bmk&fp=3371a5d708e6512b&biw=1280&bih=620) there are lots of information available on the internet.
Potential buyers may be well advised to read this article on Stauer Watch (http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/stauer-watch-stauer-watch-company-stauercom-stauer-watches/wwwstauercom-internet-/stauer-watch-stauer-watch-company-stauercom-stauer-watches-cheap-watches-with-real-fla-791554) before committing your hard earned cash.

Hope that helps.

Judging by the price, I think one will not need to take Stauer too seriously. It is a watch that is totally acceptable for "impulse buy", that is a purchase made just because I like it. To me, there's nothing wrong to add a few cheap piece to the collection. Maybe use as a beater once in a while, or for a family picnic afternoon. It reminded me of Arbutus.

There are also other worthy pieces in this price range. Seiko 5 is a famous choice, it is generic, popular, and a lot of choice, ranging from dress to diver to pilot.

If you opt for something less generic, give Orient a good look. Their mechanical range is near the top of this particular price range, but their offerings come with quality and classic look.

If you want something that will last forever, regardless how bad you treat it, and you don't wear suit that often, go G-shocks.
G-shock's price range from couple hundreds to near thousand, so choose something without solar or thermometer if you want to keep it low.

Finally, if you want a watch (and a brand) that nobody will recognise, yet it fit your style, as mentioned previously, take a look at Arbutus.

Just remember, buy a watch that you like, and will enjoy wearing.  :)

Stear well clear of Stauer.  Pure unadulterated rubbish, from the marketing to the watches themselves.  Any Seiko 5 or Orient is a far superior mechanical watch for a similar price.
