Title: Seiko Superior anyone?
Post by: bezelnut on April 18, 2013, 02:00:27 PM
Anyone saw/handled/own this watch before?

Photo borrow from the internet.

I know it is called Seiko Superior SSA053K1 and it is blue.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I think I'd figured it out.

Supposedly there are eight variation of this SSA "species", and apparently 3 are limited editions.
SSA047K1 -white dial, SS bezel & bracelet
SSA049K1 -black dial, black bezel, SS bracelet
SSA051K1 -black dial, pvd bezel & bracelet (LE)
SSA053K1 -blue dial, SS bezel, blue Nato strap
SSA055K1 -green dial, SS bezel, green Nato strap
SSA057K1 -black dial, SS bezel & bracelet
SSA059K1 -black dial, black bezel with green letter & black Nato strap (LE)
SSA060K1 -black dial, black bezel rose gold case & black Nato strap (LE)

However, there is not even a single official site/source stating or proving the LE, just a bunch of auction site saying it is. I wonder how true is the fact. Also, different seller provide different specs, some say it has sapphire some say hardlex, and the measurement range from 41-45mm. Worst, there seems to be no wrist-shot, as if no one actually bought any of these watches.

i meant this one -  SSA059.
i guess you havent seen it yet, but the box that comes with it already says its a limited edition...and seems its 2500pcs worldwide.
there are a couple shops around PJ that still has it...or had...as its been a few weeks since i last dropped by them.
and i recall seeing some wrist shots, but on wus.

that SSA051 is pretty nice too.
i've never seen the other LE SSA060 in shops here though, maybe that one conquered by other markets, or snapped up much faster.

Noted. You are right, I never see one in real life before, and definitely never see the box.  :D

Thanks for the info too.

IIRC the back of it is also printed limited edition.
anyway, my interest in it isnt too great as i dont like watches with date windows at 4 or non-standard positions.

As far as i know, the blue version (SSA053K1) is not limited. However i do think it is the best looking of the bunch.

Ermmm...the only comment is ...the watch is so daxm heavy...or maybe I am not strong enough to hold it
Its a reliable watch, with 4R37A movement, can manually hand wind it...its comparatively cheap as most of the time u'll need to pay more to get a auto + hand wind stuff which is common in Swiss made product. But I'll suggest u to get a new Seiko Monster with the same price. Few months after I bought this watch...then only they release the new Seiko Monster...  :Scolding:

I have the rose gold LE version. And I think the stealth version is awesome. I'll be picking one up shortly. :)

I literally came across this watch while looking for a monster. LOL  :Laughing_on_floor:

Anyway, both are very competitive. It does give a newer fresher look especially with the cloth strap (very subjective) and inner bezel. A new monster use 4R36, also hackable & hand-windable.

After you say that, I did saw it in your Pelican case photo, bottom second row, second from right.

(Hope you don't mind I borrow your photo)

Off topic a bit, what watch is that on the bottom row, 1st from the left? Look like a orange monster with compass inner bezel.

I will give it a hard thought, or even buy it from you if you are selling. The hiccup is I'm into the blue version.
