Ok, some of you vintage collectors might know about this watch.
But I only found out this existed yesterday... yes... yesterday...

Speechless.... hahaha
Some online sellers are asking rm10k for this watch.
It's powered by an ETA2892 according to what I read...
-
Another work of Gerald Genta?
Or a homage to AP's Royal Oak?
-
Hahaha. Is does look very close to the real thing. Don't think they commissioned the late Mr Genta to design for them before his passing.
I do like their Accutron model though. Classic 80s.
-
I've seen this for sale on WUS some years ago. Can't recall the exact price but certainly not RM10k.
-
WEIRD ... :o
I'm not sure I like it.
-
It does look a little weird.
That said, I actually feel that the thinner hand look better than the original's. Just the hand.
-
wow...looks a lot like the RO even down to the bracelet
-
Can Hanz provide some details of this watch?
I am surprised AP didnt sue them?
To me its 99% alike !

After some brief search on the net, there isn't much trusted info regarding this watch. Most people call it Bulova Royal Oak. However, some (untrusted source) do point out that it is indeed a Gerald Genta creation, and even more shockingly, it is before Genta made AP RO. So if that is true, it will make AP RO a homage to the Bulova! :o
Quoted from the net:
1
For the Royal Oak collector! Own a piece of history money cant buy anymore. This is the original Royal Oak that Gerald Genta concepted for Bulova in the 70's before Audemars.
The grand-daddy of all oaks' very very Rare. Dial has aged to a beautiful cream colour. This is so rare, i have only seen 1 other piece in worse condition at Fellows and Sons auctions 2 years back!
This piece would complete any Audemars or Royal Oak enthussiats collection. Be the talk of the town when you wear it. Just Stunning!

BULOVA - a stainless steel automatic gentleman's bracelet watch. The silver tone dial with hob nail relief texture and hourly silvered batons, date aperture to three o'clock, chamfered bezel secured by eight screws, satin finish case fitted to a steel link bracelet with folding clasp, numbered 4420101 6-157204, with signed calibre 1432.10 17 jewel movement. Case width 35mm.

Question is if it were true, wouldn't Bulova be riding on this all the way to the bank?
I mean the AP RO have already entered haute horology and if this were as some people said... concepted before the AP RO, then it would indeed make the AP RO "just a homage" which would also mean that all the publishings about the conception of the Royal Oak merely "coffee table book" material. :o
-
I don't agree it looks weird. Other than the round screws on the bezel and the AP name on the dial, it looks a near exact copy of the Royal Oak.
Maybe when Bulova released it, it wasn't well received and so the model died? Or maybe they didn't charge enough for it and everyone felt it was a cheap SS watch....

Sound like good quality material for those famous controversy theory. Quick grab 1 before the world find out about the truth, then you can sell it worth 50 times more. ;D
Anyway, even IF Bulova really came 1st, they are using generic movement, while AP did in-house. So technically, they still do not compare, in the 70's and today alike.

Not really, the original RO in 1972 was using JLC movement.
It's still using it today for 15202.
-
Well it was a "joint venture".

Ops, my mistake. Calibre 920 build by JLC.

Some might call it "yesterday" or "out-dated", but some call it "classic".
IMO, anything design/made by Gerald Genta will be evergreen.
Anyone calling PP Nautilus "yesterday"?

Wow
Congrats my friend. I don't even see it surface on Ebay. what keyword did you use to search?
btw, in my previous post, I totally have no intention to criticize, I apologise if I made you feel that way.

Hi Bezelnut...no hard feelings...but actually i felt bad for Ronaldindin, he is actually trying to pre-warn me..anyway, let bygone be bygone. There is no keyword at ebay but just put in "Bulova automatic" and start seaching one by one..it takes me about 2 days to find that particular watch. Soon i got to go for my eye check up liau (ha-ha). :Laughing_on_floor:
