Title: strap finished roughly for project watches....
Post by: chrisyen on March 09, 2010, 07:02:09 AM
been busy lately.... but need to make these 3 straps for my project watches.....
but i can only do bit by bit when bb sleep... the hammering work can only b done when bb not around... so it took me few weekends to finish this....

so finishing is rough..... thing done in the hurry.... reflected on the quality of finishing........ lucky rough finish is what i expecting....

bought this leather locally with some of our member few months ago....
i was thinking to make a longer strap.... so cut it quite long for shaping later....

i actually bend and roll and clip the cut leather a few days before i glu it....

then glu

then shape the buckle side...  and cut out the portion for buckle pin.....
take a look at the buckle.... this is not ordinary buckle.... the whole buckle the cut from a steel plate and no screw pin....
it was like the very old days work.... but its tough for making strap for it... i hv to fit the buckle into the strap b4 i glu n stitch!

there u go... fitted with buckle n shape.... before i glu the last part on the buckle side...

this is after i glued it.... it has been cut shorter as well.... because in the end strap too long not going to look gd with our small wrist while we wearing it...

next sand paper... reshaping... sand paper... sand paper.... sand paper...

then sit down n think for stitching.....

then groove the side touch our hand.... then hammer the stitching hole.... stitch......

DONE.....  as u can see i purposely stitch it further away from lug side.... to give it more vintage look.... properly too far in the end....
not to say 100% happy with the hard work.... but with the limited time i have.... so i'm still satisfy with the end product so far....

sorry.... shoot these 2 finished straps with my phone camera.... will shoot better photo after i put it up to the watch next time....

Looks good so far.
Is this the leather we bought near pataling street at our with the gang?
Thought the color was much darker.
