What does "mechanical tradition of Swiss watchmaking" got to do with a 3 hour date change process?

hi. may I know what brand is this watch is? Panerai? Got to see the whole instruction.
-
Hehehe Terence, it's to do with the fact that the date change mechanism is a simple one, much like the mechanism of old, hence "mechanical tradition of Swiss watchmaking". The rapid Date change mechanism is a more complex mechanism, one that Panerai did not adopt when designing their own movement. Why? Who knows.....
-
No improvement on the date change since 233 till now? Luckily I send off my 233 alrdy.. :P

Some of older JLC movements have that kind of date change, namely memovox compressor alarm n some others. And Pam and JLC are under the Richmont Group, and so there are some similarity. regards tony

So can the date wheel for this "non-GMT" watch move backward if you turn anti clockwise "reverse-pass" midnight?
-
Terrence,
The reason for the slow date change is to let the connoisseurs admire the hauntingly beautiful dials.
And when one does so, one forgets how long it has passed and want to look at it more.
Hence the 3hour date change passes by rather quickly for them.

My dear friend Terrence,
If you wish for an instantaneous date change function in your watch, you should consider something like a GS quartz (1/2000 sec date change function)...

If you buy an expensive leather belt which happens to have a clock attached to it, your demand must be moderated accordingly...
-
The next dude who post gotta out do Enkidu ! :P
-
wow.. "expensive leather belt with a clock attached to it" really takes the cake.
now I know you are going to be my sifu!

Bro enkidu, that was damned cruel but not totally untrue also..
If u go on maybe the forum will bar you :Laughing_on_floor:
Thouhht u said you will not speak about this brand anymore?
-
Terence did u buy a new Radiomir or something? Enkidu long time never read from you. Interesting, but I dont think it is a clock in general. U Boat is a clock. Pam has one which is the largest, ok that may look like a clock, no offence, was it 341 Egi?
-
Enkidu FTW!
;D

Yeah there's an addition of the 505 to the household. Although an impressive case work, I still does not justify the hefty price tag.
I feel that they can write all kind of shite to justify their reasoning. Why they just can't say it takes 3 hours to change date; period, and stop at that.
So what does it mean? It has ALWAYS been Swiss tradition is to make non quickset watches?! With the invasion of those damn cheap Japanese watches and Rolex whoring themselves to the wants of a QuickSet date function to the non Swiss market, the rest of the industry "reluctantly" followed and broke tradition?!

How so?

Hey Terrence why you keep wearing your wife's watch.....
So he bought this for the Mrs or for himself. Doesn't matter as long as he likes it.
-
Terence, I have no freaking idea why the Swiss calls it tradition for the wheels to bite and drag the date wheel over 3 hours to change the date, maybe it is cheaper to produce then a quickset date. Maybe it is telling you to seize today's moment before u realise it's a new day new date. Don't freaking know. This watch must feel damn light on the wrist!
-
the missus bought this for herself and no... i am not wearing it. the photo was taken when it was brought back home the other day.
as long as she loves it......
-
She's got a wide wrist.. I can picture an AP ROO on that wrist..
:HammerHead:

The photo is me testing out her watch and no, both the 15300 and 15400 does not fit me well at all
