Title: Which 116622 would you choose?
Post by: dpkong on January 13, 2013, 02:29:29 PM

A lazy Sunday afternoon is never a good thing... or is it?

It all started with a friend's request to check out price and availability of the ceramic Rolex Submariner at my local grey dealer. His stocks never seem to disappoint....

After some haggling and whatsapp, no deal is made. Meanwhile, I'm looking around the case and then these catch my eye. Just in, so I asked to try them on. Big mistake eh?

On the table, trying different angles to catch the differences..

For sure they will look better with the plastic taken off. So if it was up to you, which would you choose and why?

Blue. I saw these when I was back during the Christmas holidays but at that time the incoming forced me to hold off on the idea of purchasing. I always felt that the lack of contrast of the YM was the reason that I did not pay much attention to them. Now with the blue dial, it is a different matter altogether. I'd go blue on this almost-forgotten model of Rolex.

I will go for the blue, as the red second hand and the red yact master wording looks more stand out.

Hi Donald,

Both pieces are great looking. But since you are going for the PP Nautilus (white dial) fom Dsiewmy already, I think it's better you go for the blue in this instance. The Pt dial looks "white-ish" and your 2 Daytonas are also white dialled. So for some diff + contrast, go for the blue YM!!!

Lots of support for the blue.

List price for the PT dial is more than the blue dial. However, due to a better discount, both are about the same price. Logic would tell me the PT dial would be a better buy as one would get more platinum.

It's quite a shop indeed.

Extremely strong ESP you have there. However, we haven't been able to cut a deal (on my side, at least) and to be really honest, I haven't been able to come to a decision on AP or PP. It's a big jump when it comes to PP and AP and the head has to rule. My normal rule is not to jump unless it's a fantastic deal.

Donald

IMHO, YM is a slowest moving model among the sport model. If flipping is not your cup of tea, then its ok to go for it.

I think so..I see that display case and cabinet so many times it is ingrained in my memory. My must-go hangout place everytime I go back to my hometown.  :Laughing_on_floor: Best variety I have seen so far.

Tough choice, platinum dial is classic and versatile if you asked me. But blue dial is rare and I generally like blue.

However, as someone mentioned before, YM is a bit slow in preowned market. So think twice if you flip watch frequently.

Anyway, if i have to pick one out of two, I will go for platinum cos blue rollie doesnt sound auspicious to me. Sounds like "Lam Lo". Guess thats why blue dial rollie is not doing well in greater china.  :Laughing_on_floor:

Hi DP, I like the blue. But before you put your money down, YM is the slowest moving sports watches from rollie. If you really like n love to have one , why not. It looks great anyway..regards tony

Imo, blue takes the cake. Nobody does blue dials like the folks at Rolex too.

Blue was always not my thing.
So the choice for me is simple.

Seems there's quite a following for the platinum..

I've always liked the YM but never seriously considered getting one because news of the 116622 being released last year was spreading and then it really came true. Then the long wait for it to reach the dealers.

Now, the question is, should I wait for the premiums to come down before jumping on one? The Explorer 2 was also quite high priced when it first hit the market and prices have since become more realistic.

with close to a million mass yearly production, why wanna pay for a premium? I will wait. Dont think they will increase price again that soon. Global economy is still relatively gloomy.

At first glance, i would go for blue but after deliberation platinum.

2 reasons:

Blue YM doesn't seem to have a lasting appeal. Striking at first but i'll get tired of it after a while.
Platinum dial seems to match clothings easier than blue
