I’ve been into watches since my lower secondary school days but it was ‘limited’ or was it ‘open to’ hand me downs from my dad and elder siblings. As such I got to wear a variety of watches from Citizen, Seiko, Pagol, Titoni, Sandoz, Mido, Favre-Leuba, Mido, Rotary, Longines, etc.
My first ever paycheck went towards a gold filled Omega Seamaster analog quartz day-date which is now worn by my better half for work wear as the size is now a bit small for my wrists. She has also inherited my old ORIS wrist alarm for work wear as it is now also too small.
From the first Omega, I started to buy more watches (in between my other interest - cameras) whenever I had saved enough money. Along the way some were sold and more were added. At the peak of my hobby, I had > 30+ watches which stayed with me until several years ago whereupon I realized that I wasn’t wearing most of them and hence embarked on a determined disposal of those I no longer wore. After a 18 month culling period, ending somewhere early 2011, I was down to a sane 8 pieces. I joined MWF sometime January 2012.
In 2012 however, I was sucked into this zombie-like mindless buying frenzy of 11 additional pieces in between March to Dec… attached are pics of the watches acquired in chronological order..
My resolution for 2013 ? No more than 4 additional pieces (1 maximum per quarter) unless they are replacements for pieces which are duly disposed first.
I must simply have better self control….or its off to the yoga class or WAS Anonymous

Jos, a great writeup on your 2012 watch buying journey. You have good taste...they are all very nice pieces.
Now that you are in a state of sanity, can you enlighten as to what trigger your buying frenzy over the last 10 months?
Impulse? Instant connection (like long lost lover)? Properly researched and after long hard thought? Good looking salesgirl? Peer pressure?
-
nice time pieces sharing here, seem like u prefer pilot brand on your wrist~
Happy hunting...

I think it was probably a case of JOS trying to poison others but kena poisoned back with a heavier and more lethal dose.....

Will share the story personally with you guys. This coming Saturday's gtg .....

Jos2012, I saw your limited ed ananta and it reminded me a question u asked me last year. Was ur ananta running more than 10s per day?
-
Ok.. today I had some free time so tried to take slightly better pics of those watches where I had earlier shamelessly borrowed from elsewhere..
The last several years, I was into formal dress watches and I'm still keeping those few JLCs & GSs
Currently I'm into casual & sports models with some in black PVD/DLC cases, if possible
If you re-look at the latest additions above carefully, you'll see both diver & flieger watches.. yet to find any land adventure watches that sings to me….…

Happy hunting..
Thank you. I'm also envious of those pieces you've posted i.e. Credor & vintage GS hi beat. I'm sure you have more to show. Your wishlist shows we have similar tastes.
Buying frenzy? I really don't know. I have a set of parameters when buying watches so if I come across those watches that fit them then I'm hooked.
I'm a movt person first, so it must be a high quality movt with tech specs, good chronometric performance then the finishing of the case, dial, hands, date should be as refined as possible.. another important thing is that it be non-mainstream as possible..too many parameters to list here..
Good looking sales girls, peer pressure doesn't work on me..I'm impervious to these 2 things…in fact I'm very prone to going against trends...

aiya Loo, I'm just trying to tell others that they must have more self control unlike myself…but at least I'm not as bad as meor.. he needs more help than I do..

Jos,
Credor does not have much casual sport watches but their dress watch especially the ones i am showing u below is out of this world!
If you read up on it then you would be even more impress.
Try to snap a few pics if you can the next round you are in Japan.
Cant find a single owners review/report on them.
Still trying to hunt down one used.
New its Patek level prices!

Aiyo that one sell my condo also cannot afford hahaha

hi Peter,
actually I've seen some Credors on my last 2 trips as I was already keen on them many years back but lack the big time moolahs.
As I'm not keen on formal dress watches anymore (getting out of corporate life not too long from now) I'm only keen on sporty casual watches.
I like the Credor owned by Euclidorus though.. would buy it in a wink, if I ever saw anything like it again..

I'd love a Credor but not those dressy ones. Will try to hunt down one that was posted by Euclidorus….carbon fibre dial..yum yum

Well if you insist on a minute repeater, the cheapest from JLC is from RM 150K onwards. The Credor is I think many more times the price.

what i shall say... impressive collection.
JLC NS Diving Alarm T5 titanium is the best among all to me.

My friend,
i am very shocked by your 2012 journey! You certainly have a productive year! got the WIS fever bad! lol
although i sympathize with you as i'm nearly as bad as you. In just three months i've purchased 5 watches as well. After the fourth i promise thats it but i couldnt' resist the last one.
For 2013 i must only purchase watches i must have and slow my production way down. My wallet and my shelf space is crying for me to relax
having said that, your collection is very nicely done. All good pieces. Welldone.
Damn, as i said this i came across a brand... Hanhart (german brand) that has a line called Hanhart Primus Watches, which is exactly my real name! Damn it!!!! must.. resist...
-
What?????? :o
noooooooo… :Startled:
To-date my favourite and most valued watch in my collection is a GS (although some of my other watches costs much more).... this one..SBGC003, your brother has held, touched and worn it once…
(http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m235/JoeyJLC/_DSF5852.jpg)
Though I love ALL my watches, I've ranked them internally in my mind (like how olden day emperors ranked their concubines….I wish ) and the JLC NS Diving Alarm is only….No 4

Primus, don't be shocked. I've been there, done that in many of my hobbies (watch collecting, camera collecting, superbikes, scuba diving, jet skis, etc..)
You'll go thru what I went through or am still going through..so if you symphatise with me now, sooner or later I'll have to sympathise with you.. :Laughing_on_floor:
Let's talk more, lottts more this Sat over your Bowmore and some smokes…

Jos, there are some current sporty credor that will suit your budget. You may wish to consider gcbk981 (430,000 yen)...fyi, credor bracelets are very well made, imo a notch higher than gs bracelet.
Photos sourced from some spanish watch forum. Prices before tax.

I like the gcbk979 (400,000 yen)

hi euclidorus,
Thanks v much for your info and pics. The prices are in fact lower than some GS Master Shop models.
Totally agree that Credor finishing is generally above GS in case/bracelet.
Hope to plan my next trip to Tokyo late 2013.
Can you share where you bought your Credors from. If you prefer to pm, plse do so.
Actually my preference for chronos is tri-compax layout rather than 6,9,12 but if Credor doesn't have any tri-compax then may have to make do. At least the 6,9,12 counters in the Credor's dial layout is balanced by the PR at 3.
Do let me know when you are next free and let's meet up to view our GSs as well as your Credors, preferably over a golden brew or some Scotch...

Jos
Would you be kind enough to share how much wrist time each watch has? Is your buying on impulse or after some research?
Thanks
Sm

You'll be at Sat's mwf dinner?
See u soon..
I wear a different watch each day..my GS are 72 hours PR, some other watches are 55 hrs and 1 JLC is 8 day PR so with some planning, most watches can be kept running.
Even if it stops for just a few days i.e. < a week its still easy to update unless its the Perpetual Calendar which incidentally also has 1 single master button to advance all functions except moonphase.
I can sometimes wear up to 3 different watches within a day depending of what I'm doing and where I go..
Frankly only 2 out of the 11 watches were bought on impulse, Erhard Junghans Aerious as it had the excellent & beautifully worked Seiko 6S37 column wheel circular pinion chrono movt. and Seiko Dracula Monster as it looked cute and was real cheap.
The others fitted my criteria of a watch that would attract me as mentioned in an earlier post above where some were on my radar for awhile already..
Any particular reason why u asked this…. ;)
Jos

My collection is small in relative to yours. Sometimes I have to think what I'll be putting on my wrist as I comb through my wardrobe. And we have another poisoned thread on shoes, haha. A miserable few hardly get any wrist time for months....
I'll take time to research before I take the plunge. Sometimes I mull over some watches and s/list cos I feel this is a very expensive indulgence. I have bought on impulse and end up badly bruised, haha. I suppose that is the joy, the journey is exhilarating.
Hope to meet and learn more from you this sat..

You have super nice GS SD SBGA031 hi-brite titanium diver
-
hi sm,
Every individual is different.
Some love to keep every single piece they have ever owned becoz there is a story behind each of them.
I have a school friend who has kept almost every single watch he was ever given or bought since schooldays from Timex, Bulova, Citizen, Orient, Mido, Roamer, Rotary, Cyma, Favre-Leuba, Swatch, etc to current AP, VC, PP…
Another family friend who is an MD in UK owns only 5 very high end pieces from FPJ, ALS, Roger Smith, Urwerk, Vianney Halter and he only has room for 2 more special pieces.. here's one who believes in owning the most exclusive watches available. He sold or gave away to his siblings every other previous watch that doesn't meet his parameters.
I think most of us fall in between and the actual numbers that make us happy is not impt as long as you enjoy & treasure each and every piece, knowing each one in detail…
You may have a small collection but depending on the type of watches, the value could be many folds higher than mine.…
If u read my 1st post in this thread, you'll know that I had > 30+ pcs at 1 time but most of them were no longer worn for years and no longer attracted me so I culled > 20 over an approx 1.5 yr period years back. Our taste and priorities also change over time and as we mature I noticed a gradual shift in my parameters for a watch..
Currently due to my mad 2012 journey I have accumulated to under 20 pcs and there are still a few pcs which I know I will dispose off in the near future, given a fair price.
At the same time I know myself better, I would not be satisfied with just 2 or 3 pieces even if they were haute horlogerie watches (tourbillons, chain & fusee, remontoirs, equation of time, sonnerie, etc) from AHCIs or PP/ALS/Kari V/FPJ because I like variety in the form of different complications, dial designs & colors, shapes of case, types of watches (flieger, diver, round, tonneau, cushion, etc).
Unfortunately, without an unlimited budget I can't go beyond GO, JLC, GS, IWC and some newer companies offering in-house hi-tech movements such as Damasko. I have to play within my modest means. Even for these run-of-the-mill watches, most of them were acquired after some period of internet searches on their performances, movement qualities and fulfilling my parameters.
Now if I had a huge bank account, I would have acquired watches from the following;
PP Nautilus, FPJ Chronometre series, Kari Voutilainen, Urwerk, deBethune, Gronenfeld 1-hertz, JLC Duometre series, Christophe Claret's Extrem, Credor Minute Repeater, Hautlence, RM, etc
I'm nowhere nearer to horological nirvana yet so am not in a position to teach anyone but would gladly share my mistakes and impulse buys that I made along the way...
Your experience I'm sure is shared by most WIS incl yours truly, as we start off totally clueless and learn along the way.. like you say the journey can be more exhilarating than the destination.
Regards…Jos

You have all the ones that I dream of owning in the near future (hopefully!) GS, GO and JLC... the GO PML is certainly my favourite.
I wish you the best in acquiring the Duometre

Thank u. Glad you have similar tastes.
My journey started way back with simpler watches. Took me awhile to acquire my current collection but it wont stop here.
Some of these will eventually be disposed to move to the next level...hopefully...

The credor posted on previous page is using 6s37 also but guess the finishing is different from the Aerious ;)
JOS: Just realise some of the watches crown actually been pulled out, you hack the second in order to capture nice picture?? ::)
-
TJ,
Yes although both use the 6S37, I haven't seen the Credor's finishing but the Aerious finishing is quite finely finished...that's why I bought it from you
I hack those hackable watches coz I didn't want the second hand to be blurred in case the shutter speed is too slow as I shot in low light.... anyway if you look at all the pics, not all the hands of every watch was arranged in a visually ideal position... those shots were done speedily within minutes...

wow, you are a real collector brother. :o

Thank you. sir but I really think that JPSP/Primus beats me in higher values, meor beats me in sheer numbers…and many others in this forum but its not a competition obviously…
someone in mwf has no less than 6-8 Omega SMPs of various issues alone…. now that's a real serious focussed collector..
wow, you are a real collector brother. :o
Thank you for your compliment but I think you should view JPSP's collection…. fewer but much higher end
Wow, impressive collection!

nice collection & those aint cheap man!
