Hi All,
I've got this Rolex Watch from my father, i think which is at least 20 years old. I could see a marking Steelinox 6251H at the middle stainless steel strap only. The watch is still working after all these years as the "seconds" hand is still moving. The problem is that the spindle as the side is loose (something might be broken inside the watch) and i couldn't adjust time and date from it. The glass is also mild scratched. Does anyone know where can i fix it? Is there an old timer shop in Petaling Street that well known to repair Rolex watches? Pls advise. Feel free to comment. Thanks a lot people.

I cant seem to post some pics into this topic. Can anyone teach me how to post pictures? I saw the "Insert Image" tab, but it won't let me browse the pics from my laptop.

Easiest way use photobucket. Copy img. Why have u not considered sending to RSC? Petaling Street old uncle watch repairer? For a genuine Rolex? U inherited from your dad or your dad ask u to repair for him? *scratching head*

One of the member suggested me go try SUmmit first, there's a watch shop named [Name of shop removed - forum mod]. Since it's near to me, no harm go try it out :)

Since the watch spindle at the side is loose (can't adjust time & date), i went to a watch shop in Seremban town (few shops away from PBB bank) and the uncle told me that the lever inside is broken. Cost to fix it is RM900. Asked whether it's genuine Rolex parts, the uncle answered if not genuine parts, it won't fit in. Will pay a visit to Summit next week and ask the watch shop beside ACE hardware.

pm me if you need a reliable person to repair that Rolex. Yes, Rolex parts are expensive as there is no fake parts unless some may replace the crown with a after market crown. If you send it to RSC, you can be assured of new parts but if you send it to shops that you are not familiar, they may also give you used parts taken from other old Rolexes.

Went to the watch shop in Summit, recommended by some members here and get the Rollie evaluated. A lot of rust within the watch itself after opened up due to the broken glass, water sipped in as mentioned by the sifu. Advised me to change the 'engine' inside and the glass, and the cracked wrist band. The Rollie is dated 1972.

How much quoted at Summit?

Thanks. So one could tell from the digits which year the watch was made.

No.
You need to get the serial number in order to determine year of made.

The internet hype that it is...
Well, the serial numbers which are engraved between the lugs at 6 o'clock or on the chapter ring (or rehaut) for newer models give a rough estimate for the year the case was made/stamped out of a block of steel. The estimation is more "correct" for the popular stainless steel models and can be very far out for the gold models. The new random serials will circumvent this.
Now when the case, movement and other parts were actually assembled into a watch, no one really knows.

So many uncertainties
