Title: Homage
Post by: ck77 on December 15, 2009, 08:40:32 PM
Guys,

Have been bitten by Panerai's bug lately  :-\ As much as I wanted to get the real deal, but my pocket couldn't allow.  >:(
Appreciate if anyone of the kind soul here could direct me to the right source for curing my illness (period)  :D

Guys, am about to pull the trigger from GETAT.

However, could anyone here tell me the differences between the following 3 variants from their site:

1. Custom Made 47mm Case California Style Sandwich Dial with Orange Numberals Watch
2. Militare 47mm California Style Watch with Orange Numberls
3. Militare 47mm California Style Green Luminous Numberals Watch
(sorry can't post the link here)  8)

Which of the above is closest to Pam 3446?

Title: Re: Homage
Post by: chrisyen on December 21, 2009, 06:08:45 AM
none of it is close nvm...

pam 3446 has following features!

1. painted lume
2. blued hands with same lume
3. fixed wire lug

those 3 u chosen
no 1 . - orange lume on sandwich dial with white/cream lume on blue hands is not matching
no.2  - orange lume on painted dial with white/cream lume on blue hands is not matching
no. 3 - no blued hands

if the shape and size bit out still ok... but the basic feature is out....
worst is the dial lume do not match with hand lume !
Title: Re: Homage
Post by: ck77 on December 21, 2009, 06:43:25 AM
Thanks yenfoolun for reply. How about if compare to Pam 249?
Title: Re: Homage
Post by: chrisyen on December 21, 2009, 08:16:07 AM
Thanks yenfoolun for reply. How about if compare to Pam 249?

same... its the fundamental things...
249 also has a vintage color lume painted on California dial hour marker... with same color lume on the blued hands!

so at least u get a blue / gold hands, because vintage pam will hv this normally...
then get the hand lume match the dial lume....
if not, it will be very ugly....

fyi, most modern historic line pam has black hands and small white second hands !
most modern contemporary line pam has st hands and small white second hands ! except those with different color dial or gold case
only special edition pam like 249 / 262 has blued hands

I've ordered a homage from Getat and he has shipped the watch on last Monday, 4 January 2010. Unfortunately I have not received the watch until today. Worried that the watch might be lost in mail, therefore I've sent him an enquiry. Following is his reply,

quote/
Hello,

I have called to cenral post office today they misunderstanding the watch is qurstz watch that cannot send overseas started from last week. Because the clock with battery is not allowed to send to prevent the horrible bomb attack.
They have checked the watch is ok and promised the data will be updated on tomorrow mornning.

Regards,
Getat Watch CO.

So, does it mean that quartz watch is no longer can be shipped? As far as HK is concerned  ???
Gosh, guess my homage can't make it to this Saturday GTG  :Scolding:

Good news, I have received the watch from Getat yesterday.

But not so good news are, I found the following:-

1. Running ridiculously faster by appox 4 minutes per hour  :o Does the movement need times to 'break-in'?
2. Uneven paint on 4,5,6 o'clock indexes
3. Hard to screw and unscrew the screw-in crown
4. Bad lume
5. Movement is loud, I can even hear the ticking sounds while the watch is on my office desk. Is it normal?
6. From the clear back, I have noticed it is a 6498 instead of 6497 as listed on their website. What is the difference between the 2 movement, other than cosmestic? I do prefer the look of 6497 though.
6497                    6498
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s246/ongck77/6497.jpg)(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s246/ongck77/6498.jpg)

Guys, shall I demand a replacement watch from him?
Else, am intend to regulate the movement, re-lume, put on AR coating. May I know how much estimated that those would cost? Please PM me if not allowed to discuss here.

This is my first homage and on-line purchase, what a bad experience  :'(

Still waiting for mine frm Getat, hopefully today or tomorrow will reach.
Will pay a close eye on the accuracy and also dial as well as movt type.
4mins per hr is completely not acceptable. Even 4mins per day is too much.
30sec-1min per day i will still accept.

David has 1-2 watches by Getat, maybe he can chime in with some of his observations.

Mind to take some pics of the dial?

Getat claim that they test each watch in 6 position before ship out. Running 4min fast per hour is too much, I think you can ask for a replacement. I have 1 homage from Getat and 1 from Jackson. The 1 from Getat was running about 1min fast per day, and the 1 from Jackson is around 20sec per day.

I've emailed him and let's see what is his reply.

1. Running ridiculously faster by appox 4 minutes per hour 4 min in 1 hour? something wrong
2. Uneven paint on 4,5,6 o'clock indexes                    i think the price justify this
3. Hard to screw and unscrew the screw-in crown        i think the price justify this
4. Bad lume                                                          i think the price justify this
5. Movement is loud, Is it normal?                             its normal
6. From the clear back, I have noticed it is a 6498 instead of 6497 as listed on their website. What is the difference between the 2 movement, other than cosmestic? I do prefer the look of 6497 though.
6497                    6498
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s246/ongck77/6497.jpg)(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s246/ongck77/6498.jpg)
the only different between 6497 & 6498 is small second position, 6497 at 9, 6498 at six. the 6497 photo on the left u posted is a copy of pam 6497, not a normal 6497. normal 6497 look the same like 6498 just the position of crown, wheel.... different. anyway, all these are china made movement and it is a copycat, poorly finished

Guys, shall I demand a replacement watch from him? will that make a different? does he has a better quality? u think he will give u a better lume one? i dont think so

Else, am intend to regulate the movement, re-lume, put on AR coating. May I know how much estimated that those would cost? Please PM me if not allowed to discuss here. r u sure  want to do this?

This is my first homage and on-line purchase, what a bad experience  :'(

Thanks Chris,

Yes the movement I posted is exact pitures copied from Getat. All are Asian movements.
I can live with other flaws but at least the watch to regulate for better accuracy, running few minutes fast per hour is really driving me crazy

Not in a mood to take pictures  :'( From the above shown that the uneven paint on 4,5,6 o'clock indexes, especially very visible on number 4

Received the reply from Getat, he is saying the movement might be magnitised during the shipment.  ??? ???

Indeed Getat is right, a forummer in WUS requested him to include timegrapher results of the watch which he did.

why u say is this a homage?

during 30s, cushion case is a trend.... was like art deco, doctor watch, banana watch.....
