Hi all
Need some advise folks. My final selection falls between these 2 series. Both watches really sing to me everyday, I just can't decide. If you were me, which one would you choose? And why?
Purpose : Dress watch. (business wear)
Me : Matured and sporty type. (age before 40)

In fact, I have scaled down my search to Longines Chrono & Ball Worldtime Chrono. I think My struggle is the brand, rather than its functionality, as i know both are top notch watches.
Your sharing is much appreciated, whether you are an owner or not..

If it is a choice between brand names I'd choose BALL; never did fancy the LONGINES name very much. It always remindered me of LONG-JEANS. :Laughing_on_floor:
As for functionality, I'd pick the Longines single second watch. Easy on the eyes. The Ball worldtimer may look nice initially but its complicated dial may give you a headache after a while. It would give me one. :Blue:
My opinion.
-
Since your are the sporty type, go for the Longines master chronograph. The finishes is excellent .
-
A bit hard to give you suggestion though since you mentioned you are sporty type yet you want to have a dress watch. So not sure if i should give u a dress watch suggestion or sport watch suggestion. :HammerHead:
Anyway, both of them are popular mid tier brands i will say. Not much of difference to me. Longines appear to be more "dressy" and Ball a bit more "sporty".
I will probably go for the simplest longines here. stay out chrono since u r looking for a dress watch. I will skip Ball worldtime unless i travel regularly. The dial is too busy for me. Beside, not point to pay extra for the function which I dont need.
-
IMHO longines master collection is the way to go
-
For business wear, it has to be Longines. The finishing is much more refined than Ball. For non-business wear, then my choice would be Ball due to the watch being more resilient.
-
The Longines can be formal and casual whereas the Ball is purely casual/sporty.
Both use ETAs so no diff in the movt quality.
Based on those Longines/Ball I've seen in the metal, my opinion is that finishing of Longines is more refined but if you want to go chunky sporty then its the Ball..
My personal preference however is Longines….
-
I'd go for longines ! I have long admired the legend diver
-
I love ball watchew, but if you want a formal wear watch i'd have to say Longines, especially with the small second. Very classic
-
Longines my vote
-
When I see "dress watch" or "business watch", it always be Longines, not Ball. Ball usually tie with "sporty", "diver", "tough".
A part from that, I would agree that the finishing Longines Master Series are excellent.
However, my advise is to listen to your heart on which to go for :) Get yourself a quite time, put down your ear & brain and ask yourself on which one do you like the most.
-
I also have longiness master collection. Not bad, the whole wrist will shaken when you wore it.
My vote is longiness.
-
Longines = classy :thumbsup:
-
Longines.
But if you decide to flip it within 2-3 years, you will lose a great deal for both brands.

FYI, went to Bangsar Shopping Centre today (YW H***s) and saw this beauty there ....

Been waiting for it for 1.5 years, but alas, the watch did not connect with me and so I have passed on it. As I understand it, there are only 4 pieces in Malaysia (currently) and 2 of them have been reserved for Longines boutiques (which are about to open up in Pavillion and some place else).
If you are considering Longines, you might want to consider this too. Good luck!

if not mistaken, the several longines models you posted are quite different in terms of pricing...
I think before you decide on brand, decide on function first. Do you really need a world timer? A chrono?
If money not problem, i think the Longines retrograde is a unique and beautiful dress watch...You'll love the way the seconds hand sweeps....maybe looking at this will bring you more joy then knowing what the current time at Rio or Georgia... ;D
The current retrograde model (posted by dcpillai)...i find it too busy. Personally, i think the day/night and day indicator on top of the word `Longines' made the whole dial busy....Also, if not mistaken, the push buttons are now simplified but could be difficult to use...

Well.. I think i already have an answer to my selection, thanks for all valuable pointers. It is funny feeling everytime when i decided for 1 watch, my devil's advocate always pull my leg saying "you sure or not.."
Maurice is nice, but I am concerning its after sales service, they are distributed by DKSH.. a FMCG company :Praying:
-
Well, i will prefer ML over those two anytime if ask me.
-
Buy the one that sing to you bro.
For me i will go for longines chronograph. Reason is i am chrono collector and i used chrono alot. So ya
