Hello fellow MWF members. There are more questions than answers on how did a watch get magnetized? Some answers are if you put it near speaker magnets , some say the airport luggage x-ray machine, some say the fridge door magnet and so on. I heard there is a machine to de-magnetized a watch from the sc without opening the watch. For the symptoms of a magnetized watch, some say it goes fast by a few hours a day, some say it just stop , and now over to MWF members for your comments and opinions. Enjoy it.

In the older cars where the two speakers are placed at the rear panel (boot), one can easily magnetized his/her watch when you unload/load things (your hand) just pass below the speaker core. My watch just magnetized this way....
The (my) affected watch (Oris) was running fast / rates 20 mins in just 1 day time. And I have to return back to oris AD for rectification.
Some watch repairer has a de-magnetized gadget to solve this problem.
Another quick way is to go to those (book store) where they have this de-magnetized panel on their counter (this panel de-magnetized the magnetic strip as you pay for the merchandise) de-stabilized the strip to prevent activation at the entrance electronic panel......A non de-magnetic strip will of course sound the siren...prevent shoplifting.
my 2 cents

I had a couple of incidents with magnetized watch. All the time it was in direct contact with the magnet. I sent it to the watch repair shop to demagnetize them. The symptoms are basically it ran few seconds faster in an hour. The worst was a second or 2 faster after i reset the watch 10mins ago. Once I demagnetized them, all back to normal. No harm done to the watch so far.

I have one of these. Got it to de-magnetize a Seiko 5 that for some reason, got magnetized. Worked like a charm.. and cheap to boot.

Hi! sshark, where you get it fix, mind sharing it with me? It happened to my black monster after only 2 week of acquired it. Had been searching the whole Penang island but in vain, it seem like no watch in the whole island has this problem before, but I'm from KL.

I did it in Sg, www.jwwatch.com

Kacang putih case.
This is when an old crt tv set comes in handy.
Hold your watch to the screen and hit the degauss button.
No de gauss button? No problem, just hold the watch to the screen and switch on the crt tv
No crt tv? No problem, I bet you have a friend/relative that does.
really no one you know has a crt? Then please refer to the earlier posts. :Dancing_banana:

Thanks, sshark & jefnando. Seriously jefnando, I never thought that will work, will give it a try no harm anyway (to the watch at least)

Hi jef, is it the old tv with a lot of static on the screen n when you say degauss button , you mean the on switch of the tv . Pls enlighten me more about this.thanks for the info...

on that note, it is not limited to Tv but computer CRT monitor. Those higher end ones comes with a degauss button while some of the cheaper one will degauss when it is switched on. good luck :)

yeah, cathode ray tube TVs are the old ones that gives a out very satisfying "piak and sssss" sound when you switch them on... and like that sshark said, the cheaper ones will auto degauss when switched on, the expensive ones has a special degauss button.

Great information and as pointed out by many members, a competent watch repair shop should be able to do it
