Title: Brands with Railway/Railroad History
Post by: boeid on June 29, 2012, 09:02:14 AM
I started dabbling in collecting watches - quite recently - when out of the blue I remembered about those big round white faced clocks on the walls of many train stations. With help from Mr. Google, I came across the name of Mondaine. I like their design and to cut the story short, my first watch for the collection is a Mondaine indeed (bought by wife in Bangkok as I could not find any here - do you guys know where I can get it in Malaysia?).

I thought it might be interesting if all/most of the watches in my collection have a history of railway/railroad behind it. So a Ball and a Hamilton were added later.

Do you guys know other brands like this? Maybe can advise on the price range as well  ;D

Cheers!

This entry may be of no worth to the thread but would like to share some nerdy trivial info about railway watches...

Railway pocket watches...
Fact 1: they do not come with cover which one can flip open. Historically, these watches for practical reasons are bare...body without cover (flip).
Fact 2: watches are all sealed (locked) and will be calibrated daily by the station master (head honcho)...only he has the key to unlock and calibrate the watches of those working at the station.

Watching too much History Channel...I guess

omega railmaster :P

Went to Omega's website and seems that this model is nowhere to be found in the current product lineup.
Has this line been discontinued?
