Hi all,
this is my first ports in MWF. my nickname is razakoss and the reason why i join MWF is because to have some knowledge on how to appreciate amazing timepiece and to make friends from this forum.
i was really naive about watch and i dont bother to look at luxury/branded watch. I've owned several watches (very cheap cheap wan, cost less than 300) and i'm currently wearing swatch irony at age of 29. bought it at switzerland and still alive and kickin with much abuse and tortures! although its just a swatch, but its a damn good watch and has sentimental values in it and that is why im still wearing it for 7 years.
then i realized and started to appreciate timepiece when i decided to get married. i did asked from my fiancee to buy me a branded watch for my wedding gift (barang hantaran in malay). then i start searching watch according to her budget (RM1.5k and below). Then after i surveyed most watch shops and I did google to get some info on how to see great values and features of desired watch and luckily I found this informative forum.
then i read and read (and accidentally got poisoned when reading some expensive watch thread reviews) then i realized that i got serious to find a suitable watch me. hopefully in future it wont turn to be my hobby as my intention to get a watch for my wedding gift. finger crossed.
until now i still havent got my desired watch, but what i gonna do is to do some research and buy an entry level branded/luxury watch just to create a baseline.
apology on my long intro and bad english and i hope i will get some guidelines from sifoos in MWF!
Thanks !

welcome to the forum bro. Dont worry. Anyone who reads through al the posts here will end up poisoned and would have an uncontrollable urge to keep getting a new watch.

Welcome to Malaysia Watch Forum and congratulations on your coming wedding.
Wish you luck in your hunt for a suitable timepiece.
You may want to check out Seiko and Orient timepieces. Both Japanese brands offer excellent value for money automatic models.

thanks g mac and danny. its good to gain info from here and look forward on searching desired watch for me.

Selamat Pegantin baru!
Tip: in MWF, you can comfortably bring up the subject of getting multiple spouses (new watches) and separation (selling) in one single conversation. Definitely a no-no if at home!! :Laughing_on_floor: :Dancing_banana:

Welcome to The Forum.... My advise is for her to give you RM1.5k worth of gold certs for 'hantaran'. For the watch you can start with a vintage rolex model maybe...
-
No apology needed :)
Welcome and enjoy yourself here.. .hope you do inspires by some timepieces here

Welcome to MWF, razakoss.
Enjoy your stay here and please share with us pictures of your collections.
Your swatch may be 7 years old, mine was 20+ years and still ticking.
Cheers.

thanks meoramri, rusminag , scott c and watchnewby for the warm welcome and valuable advices.
after done some reading in this forum, i think i have narrow down my choice of my desired watchmaker.
1) Ball
2) Tag Heuer (a bit bizarre that not so many forummers dont favour this brand)
3) Oris
4) Tissot (least preference)
And my budget is around RM4000.
What do u think?
-
RM4k is quite a healthy budget. If you willing to look at pre-owned pieces, that amount could be stretch better and you could be looking at better brands then the ones you mentioned. If you only going for new piece and the brands you mention, I'd go for the Ball watch. All the best in your hunt bro.
-
Yes, I concur with G.Mac that RM4K is a healthy budget.
For me it will be between Oris and Ball.
I used to admire Tissot (at that point of time, I did not know of other Swiss brand in the market) but there are others which I perceive to be "better" than Tissot. Take Ball for eg.. Ball is famed for its lume, and if I need a "night automatic mechanical watch", I will go for Ball.
As for Oris, I admire the Big Crown series. Very classical, clean dial etc. So if someone ask me between Oris & Tissot, I will choose Oris.
As for Tag, I honestly never like this brand. Period.
-
thanks gmac and watchnewby for your recommendation.
i need topup abit on top of her initial budget so that i will be happy with the purchase. as this is gonna be my first premium watch, why not stretch the budget a bit just to fulfill my satisfaction. :)
preowned watch, do u think what brand can suit my budget? i know it depends on the condition but at least i can consider in the future?
-
Hi razak, selamat pengantin baru.
i also new here and trying to find a beater watch for me.
My 2 cents, if it is for your "hantaran", go for a brand new watch. Like others mention, Ball is nice.
Don't worry, like other passion, the first one will definitely not be the last one, so this watch will not be the last one for you. You still have a large opportunity for future collection.
-
agreed with bro gmac and watchnewby.... Ball will be a good choice....
three words for it "Bang For Bucks"... Happy Hunting and Happy Wedding to you....

i am from wangsa maju ;D

Wellcome to the world of empty wallet :) It seems like the grails just keeps on coming... still don't have mine but sure bought a bunch on the way
-
Welcome
Ball is a good start and I think they are good looking tool watches priced reasonably
-
If you hunt around and shop wisely, budget rm 4k will get you a nice pre-owned manual winding (vintage) 6694 rolex.
Good luck hunting.
