In January 2012 I told myself that my grail watch for this whole year was to be a GO Perpetual Calendar, so after much thought and taking awhile to dispose off a whole bunch of watches that I stopped wearing over the last few years, I finally convinced myself to buy this watch in March 2012 and it was supposed to quench my W.A.S. till 2013….I also promised myself that I should only buy 1 additional watch only when I sold 1 existing one..to keep my collection at maximum 7-9

When WWII invited me over in April 2012, I thought that I'd get my missus a nice Max Bill but instead, I walked out with this….
before I left for Japan in May for a holiday, I dropped by JLC Starhill to send one of my JLC for service and ended up checking out some dive watches. I fell in love with the JLC Diving Alarm but I told myself to be rational and not go on a binge buying spree... :HammerHead:
When I was in Japan for 2 weeks I came across and liked 2 watches, so I told myself that the JLC Diving Alarm will have to wait till 2013 because the GS SBGA031 titanium and Ananta Naoki Sakai Limited Edition (Black PVD/DLC?) even combined, cost a whole lot less, so I ended up buying these 2……... and so I thought that I was going to be happy for the rest of 2012

HOWEVER………………………………………..a forummer posted a picture of his JLC Diving Alarm several days ago and the images of the watch I saw in the metal at JLC Starhill came back to haunt my heart & mind...….. :o
I couldn't sleep since then, so………………………………………………………………………… ??? :Blue:
I simply had to go out today and get myself this, so that I can get a good night's sleep and not let it affect my work as it had been for the last few days….. :-[

hi bro
from the watch that you buy, u look afford on it,
should be no problem still can go on,
i think the problem you should worry now is how you gone wear it?
bro in a year u bought so many?
i see what happen to you now, which worry i might become like this in future,
if you can over come this problem, need you to share out, i need those advise.
hahaha,
-
I need help also , I seriously attacked by the W.A.S virus. Just cant stop thinking to get another new watch , even though I have brought 4 new watch for 2012. :Blue:
-
nothing to do with affordability…...
I used to own >30 watches since I started buying watches but last 2 years I force myself to sell down to only <10 watches..
My resolution for 2012/2013 was to keep only 8 watches that were special to me…
wearing them is no issue… wear 1 per day….and you already wear 7 watches/week..
my worry is that its only June and I've bought 5 so far… luckily I do not have any other watch in mind except 1 more model which will only be released Q3 this year….so hopefully its still ok... :Praying:

I've been through this many times before….that's how I ended up with >30 but last 2 years I was very disciplined…thought I had finally matured…..as a WIS that is...

Congratulations on the JLC
I told you that once you try it on your wrist it
would be difficult to get off ;D
Love your perpetual GO, I'm actually eyeing
the PML XL grey dial myself
There's just no cure. :HammerHead:
Wear it in good health

ummm. :-[ sorry to tell you that she also bought something she really liked on our Japan trip…a JDM Orient Star which is really very nicely made obviously with their own in-house movt and at a price similar to an entry level ORIS with an ETA. Comes with a solid link bracelet, sapphire glass, display back with nicely finished movement & decorated rotor….
Have to slowly cut down the medicine dosage :P

Sorry, master…
I know I know…I only see watches all around me each time I close my eyes …..counting down watches to fall asleep...
Que sera sera..

Although I'd seen the NSA at JLC Starhill in May, I thought I had gotten over it when I got back from Japan with my Grand Seiko & Ananta LTD….until you ….yes you…. posted a picture of it to bring out the flashes of memory from the recesses of my mind….
Now see what you've done…. you've made me spend my bonus even before I've got it in the bank…. :HammerHead:
but yes.. you're right… its hard to take it off once it's on your wrist….lovely piece of art….thank you….
Thanks on your compliment of the GO Perpetual.. that watch was really on my mind from time to time since it was launched in 2010…it took me that long to make up my mind and to set funds aside for it…. :Blue:
I'm still keen on the PML XL with the grey dial….

Nice pick up on the JLC!
If i were to get i would have got it in that strap as well.
-
The NSA comes with 4 versions of strap/bracelet.
thanks but actually I liked the articulated rubber bracelet.. you've got to see it, put in on and feel it on your wrist to appreciate it BUT that bracelet costs
RM 6,500…OUCHHHHH….. an extra RM 6,500 over this leather and fabric insert strap…
I've ordered the rubber strap as an extra option….
OTH the titanium bracelet is very finely finished but doesn't really make the watch look good..
I would have ranked the rubber articulated bracelet 1st, this leather/fabric insert 2nd, the rubber strap 3rd and titanium bracelet last in terms of matching the watch….
Nice pick up on the JLC!
If i were to get i would have got it in that strap as well.

Ok, after reading all this, I feel that I'm not alone, and I can take comfort that all the 4 watches that I bought so far (in less than a year) are not exactly in the luxury range....yet.
But then, JOS2012, you have some great collections there, and if I were in your position, I'd be glad that I've contracted this disease!
-
Congratz on your JLC  Looks cool to be honest

I contracted W.A.S. many times over during my entire watch buying history but looks like after the last 2 years of discipline, its all gone to the dogs again these few months.. :Scolding:

Forgotten? heck, no…its just that to keep the number down to a logical, manageable, special 7-9 pieces, I can have only 1 of each type of complication or type such as
flieger, diver, dress, chrono, GMT, alarm, repeater, perpetual, etc…just need to find the right combinations
The last piece to fit the puzzle is a repeater, now that will take a long while… its should be the piece de' resistance….the creme de la creme….

Hehe ... this complication theme won't work. It would get out of hand very quick. Don't believe me?
Here's the problems
Chronograph
a) Movement
1. Column Wheel
2. Cam lever
b) Dial design
1. One register
2. Two register
3. Three register
c) Function
1. Normal non-flyback
2. Fly back
3. Rattrapante (split seconds)
4. Feudroyante (lighting seconds)
d) Operation
1. One button non-coaxial with crown
2. One button coaxial with crown
3. Two buttons
Not to mention in house or not in house, auto vs manual, vintage vs modern
You see the problems ;)
Looks at these photo and tell me which one should I choose. A super finish column wheel chrono or a historic NASA moon watch.

thanks for your input..actually I'm quite a simple person..
I know you can further dissect each complication down to sub groups but as long as I have one of those complications it will do..
I'd then go through the subsequent criteria for that complication such as technical excellence of the calibre, finishing, horological accuracy, looks, authenticity of manufacture, …I'm bound to filter out a lot by then…
Once I buy a certain complication, if another new model came out, I'd just ask myself a few simple q's.. is the newer model any more special in complication, has more refined finishing, more accurate, more exclusive, had newer technology than what I already have in hand… if not.. then the new model wouldn't be any temptation at all..
For me if I had to choose between the 2 chronos you highlighted, its a no brainer for me.. I'd go for the Lange anytime...
I'm not much of a vintage person as I want maximum horological performance with the finest finishing and latest hi tech hi performance materials, as far as possible and in as few numbers of production as possible….History to me is for us to avoid making the same mistake twice but the future is where we should be heading to....
I know this is not everyone's opinion… I wouldn't pay any premium for a vintage or antique whether it be…watches, cameras, furniture, Ming vases, etc...I'm more of a 'bawah' rather than an 'atas' person..
...Hehe ... this complication theme won't work. It would get out of hand very quick. Don't believe me?

My solution is to classify most other models even zenith al primero and iwc big pilot, two of the models that i quite like as 'miscellaneous watches' now. Got a Offshore recently. Oh boy, I am so tempted to get RO 15400 now which i feel i am quite sicked too. So, i just force myself to be really focus. Go for the ultimate. Guess i will try to control my desire now and fix my eyeballs on Nautilus minimum 5712. I know 5711 just wont stop me from going further. Ultimately, I only want to keep maximum 3 watches. So you should just go for the holy trinity and probably Lange too. Forget about the rest. At least that could stop you from buying for a while. Just my 2 cents worth.
-
Thanks for your thoughts..
I'm moving away from formal watches to casual or sports watches for own reasons..
Hence all the current formal watches will be disposed and only 1 willl be retained for any black tie function or if I can afford it eventually..a repeater for formal..
The other configurations would be diver, flieger, chronograph, GMT, alarm in various combinations but all on either bracelets or all weather straps. A Nautilus is definitely within my target
I'm a practical person so tourbillons, foudrouyants, chain & fusees, remontoirs, sidereals.equation of time watches are out even though I totally acknowledge their aesthetic beauty and technical excellence..
I could never be satisfied with only 3-5 watches even if they are ALL from the trinity or AHCI's....
I like variety to suit different moods and have switched 3 different watches within a day depending on the dress code & event...maybe that may change as I get even more elderly....who knows

Bro,
Just enjoy life!!
Follow Patek P.'s advise, "you never actually own [your watch]. You merely look after it for the next generation."
If you need the "next generation" to take over the responsibility, post up the watch (s) you want to "pass on" in this forum and I am sure someone would take it up. :Laughing_on_floor: :Dancing_banana:

Hi Joe,
Well done. You've invested more in watches during the last 6 months than most people would expect to do in a lifetime.
If I'm not mistaken you registered with MWF in January this year. Hope that your recent spurt of acquisition was not due to the subliminal programming that we're all subjected to everytime we login to MWF. ;D
-
Hi Danny,
I'm afraid its not something I'm proud of, as it only shows my total lack of self control ...
something like a runaway train and it scares me..
They should have a rehab for people like me... maybe start a Watch Addict Anonymous.....
:-[
By the way maybe the forum can create a 'Multi-quote' response for TS to reply several posts at 1 time? I've seen it in the photo forums..

It is possible to reply to several posts by using the quote function. You can actually insert multiple quotes and respond accordingly in one reply.

Dear Danny,
I don't think we are in as serious a situation as those Greeks. And even if this Forum is discontinued, people will still visit Timezone, WUS, VRF...etc which are equally if not more poisonous. The only solution is (like the Greeks surrendering their life to Madam Merkel) is for us to surrender our credit cards to our madams at home so that she can put in place an austerity plan (provided she will not end up using the cards to buy LV bags and SF shoes).

Hahaha...very funny analogy on the Greeks and Mdm Merkel. I am only worried that once we surrender our CC to our Home Minster, rather than buying LV's or SF, she ends up buying Chanel or Jimmy's. That time really jia lat!!!
