That is very normal but not serious yet. It will only get worse. Believe me. Like you said, when you go for luxury watch you wont bother with lower end watches...i believe that is where most are now. Gives you more motivation to work harder to be able to keep up with this hobby. Remember every year, there will be that new watch that you must get after a while. My advice, buy wisely. Buy watches with a higher liquidity. That way you can always sell to minimise your loss when you are itching for that new piece. All the best in your watch collecting bro.

You should look at the matter from this perspective: If you don't spend your hard earned money on beautiful watches, you'll probably spend it on women, gambling, alcohol etc. This world has tons of vice activities designed to lighten your pocket of your hard earned cash. Might as well indulge in something which wraps round your wrist and tells you the time. Buying watches is actualy the least of all the evils in this world, the worst being indulging in poitics (thinking you speak for all men and women on earth) and indulging in religion (thinking you speak for God). Spending money on women and alcohol affects your health; gambling will only help enrich the Lim family treasure and see you looking for the help of that bloke Michael Chong in no time. So, be grateful that you are not addicted to these more serious problems.

Hi khanwooi,
The symptoms that you described is familiar to most members of Malaysia Watch Forum. You have been afflicted with W.A.S. (Watch Acquisition Syndrome). In the high tech gadget world there is a similar disease called G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome).

There is no known cure but at least by participating in MWF you can rely on a local support group which is able to provide you with advice (not necessarily the correct ones) during bouts of W.A.S. attacks. However it is also known that prolonged participation in discussions here may further aggravate your condition leading to more W.A.S. attacks.

As so eloquently stated by Enkidu, W.A.S. is probably the least of all evils which afflict the world and you could do much worse than being simply addicted to fine timepieces.

So take heart, and console yourself with the fact that there are at least 2500 registered M'sians with W.A.S. and our numbers are also growing by the day. You are not alone.

i realise that by joining more GTG (gatherings), you won't get the severe WAS attack that much.

sometimes all you need to do is see the actual watch and feel, and it's over.
but if the feeling is still there even after GTG, likely you are having DEEP W.A.S. and likely incurable :)

as many have said, W.A.S. is not a really serious problem. wanting something expensive is not a problem if you can find a way to acquire it, through the right means of course.

also, acquiring pieces with the least depreciation when selling helps as well.

for me, once a piece catches my fancy, i tend to sit on it for a couple of months. i take the time to try it on or look at it several times before making the hit. in the meantime, i scout around for a good deal while fattening the watch funding account. this method has helped me keep it down to one watch a year for myself so far.

i hope this can help you in some way.

p/s. if anyone has a nice 116613LB or AP ROC or ROO they would like to part with, PM me...  :HammerHead: :HammerHead:

I put up a similar reply in another thread but i'll put it up again in this tread:

"Bro,

Just enjoy life!!

Follow Patek P.'s advise, "you never actually own [your watch]. You merely look after it for the next generation."

If you need the "next generation" to take over the responsibility, post up the watch (s) you want to "pass on" in this forum and I am sure someone would take it up."

Keep chanting to yourself 'no money, no money"  :) use the extra money to buy property/shares etc.. That way, you won't have money to buy watches on impulse.

Me too. I used to "have to" log on MWF daily, like my daily dose of cuppa.
But I manage to get over that by not getting myself a BB or an iphone or a Tab or ipad.  ;D
When I am trekking in the jungles or mountain climbing, I take no gadgets along and I am cured on this.

As for W.A.S, I, too was an addict (imagine getting 1 watch a month, but luckily I prefer Asian and Russian pieces, not the high end one). But now a reformed addict. Maybe getting 1 or 2 watch a year is my motto now.
