Hey all, i am fairly new in watch world and would like some suggestions from watch gurus here. Thing is i am looking for a watch that is automatic, has power reserve dial on it, and with design maybe like uhm Ball Aviator, or more so like A Panerai. I saw this L erand (i think thats the name?) which actually look decent, except it will cost about 7k +. Again, the main stumbling block would of course the finance. Hence i am putting a cap of 5k.
Any input is very much appreciated.
I do not know much with watches, so it will be very helpful if you can specify the model u suggesting, i will google it.
Of course if u can suggest where to get it (in PM if not in forum) as well.
Thanks a million people.

The PR indicator would cancel out a lot of watches with that kind of budget. Have you considered any Orient watches? Namely the M-Force SEL03003B or Star seeker DJ00002W. One Swiss model I can think of is Longines L2.666.4.78.3 . Maybe a German watch? Union Glashutte has one but I forget the model. None looks like the Ball Aviator or Panerai though.

Zeppelin Hindenburg LZ129 ?? ???

I have only one advice.. buy a used one.. If you have limited amount of money right now thats the best choice. Check out Seiko and Orient also red army watches and ww2 watches might be to ure venom

for 5k you can get one of those "Tourbillon" from Ingersoll.....still got plenty of money left over..... :mooning:

I would recommend the Orient 300m diver. It fits your requirement (automatic + power reserve) and budget with cash to spare. :)

:Cheers:

To me a PR indicator on an automatic is useless. On a manual wind yes.

Lots of ideas chipped in. thanks guys. out of all i think, the orient SEL03003B - M-Force LE is actually looks great, except i'm not in market for that kind of design. Longiness has that classy look, but abit far fetch?
I do understand the PR doesnt come cheap, and might not be usefull to some. i had own one ingersoll (given as birthday present few years ago), but noted that more often that not, time displayed was not accurate. ie early in the morning or whenever movement not suffice. Thus i thought of getting a new automatic watch with PR indicator.
Say im willing to get a used one, any suggestions?
edit; say this seiko ananta spring drive GMT
http://www.seikowatches.com/products/ananta/sd_gmt.html
looks decent, fits my criteria. anyone knows how much? cant seem to find the price

i only like a couple of orients, those being the orient star variants.
this one is available here at a retail of rm1.7k.

gardens/midvalley not a good choice to get watches. number of ADs limited. Only 4 mid-to-low-end and 6 mid-to-high-end shops.

Starhill and pavilion the place to go
-
guys, so update; went to midvalley - looked around and was not fruitful. only watch that meets criterias only that L erard (some come with lunar phase, which is nice) or a more expensive ones (Oris has one, i think its 10k) . did ask for seiko ananta / orient but no AD actually carry them, to my suprise really. Luminox looks nice though.
any particular area / shop one would suggest? or other brand or option?
will go and have a look next outing
thanks in advance
regards.

Seiko Ananta is not officially sold in Malaysia. So dont bother asking.
Have you checked out our own members used section and merchant section?
SG Wang/Pavilion is a good area to shop.

Ball Engineer II Ohio Moonphase... no power reserve dial but lovely moonphase & lume and well within your $5k budget....

hello all,
so i have been looking into few watches lately and i think those which are swiss made would be abit far fetch. Orient / Seiko / other japanese made would be my most likely target to 'quench my thirst' at the moment.
Orient Star is indeed solid built, this being one of few i like;
http://www.orient-watch.com/orientstar/gmt_04.html
however after trying it on me, i found its a little too small (previously worn a ingersoll, which is too big, but i kinda accustomed to it)
built wise, felt solid.
However there are other orient which also nice;
http://www.orient-watch.com/products/category/item/?category_id=116
size is spot on, although according to specs only 0.5mm diffrence, but in reality in showed otherwise. not sure if its just optic illusion. watch felt solid, bracelet is kinda dissappointing.
In seiko, i like the Ananta, of course, but no ADs actually carry them.
So after scouting, this one hit the spot;
http://www.thongsia.com.my/content/products/popup.php?rid=22&pid=1691
looks great, except its kinetic rather than fully automatic, a bit smaller than the second orient, also more pricey.
on the other hand, i think the dial appears a little 'busy' (the moonphase is awesome though)
would love some feedback from gurus.
Lastly, i do have some questions;
1) in the second orient shown, actually has a lug size of 23mm. been doing some searching, and found out its hard to find odd number strap.
anyone can PM me where / how to find the good straps + buckle clasps (ie shop / internet site) . im just not a fan of bracelet.
2) anyone has actually change the strap DIY? advise needed. would love to learn how to do, as i think i might go strap craze later. can pm me links video / pic / what to buy as well.
Again thanks a million.
Regards.

No interest in Oris/Longines Divers. About 3/4k can get you a very nice Swiss Auto diver. However, no cool complications lar. Oris TT1 or Longines Hydroconquest are the usual suspects at this price range. Ball/Tissot etc also popular.

Hi budakkacamata,
i agree with you that MV doesnt seem to have much choice. I was watch hunting earlier of the year with a budget smaller than yours and finally managed to find something that I wanted at Pavillion. A nice SA gave me a good offer (or I think it was :P) after a couple of visits to the shop.

There are fair bits of mid tier brands such as Epos, Fred Constant, Hamilton, Raymondweil, Titoni which makes good and realiable swiss watches too for your budget range. Take a look at them as well.

Can consider some good jdm seiko or orient at (please no links to outside commercial site, Thank you: Mods Team)
