I know I am missing a Sub Date in my collection and I am considering the 16610, 116610LN or 116610LV... and your pics just made the decision for me... but not now though... have to wait till wallet recharge power 1st... hahaha

Hanz, you've already got the 14060, which I think is a legend on its own (some purists even argued that this is the only Sub to have due to its no date function  ;)) So not having a 116610 in the collection is a non issue, as far as I'm concerned. But if you still want to go for Sub Date, I support you all the way

G.MAC, there are quite a lot of people who think that the LV is a better watch than this, aesthetic-wise. Hand me over yours, and I'll make it very photogenic!

Manburg,

You ever handled a GmtIIc?
From what I can gather, although both gmtiic and the subc both have the ceramic bezel, it is believed that the sub ceramic bezel is black whichever angle or lighting conditions you look at.
Whereas the gmtiic's ceramic bezel looks to be grey or purple in some angle and lighting conditions.
Just wanna double confirm. Is the Subc's bezel looks black only at all times?

Post by: Manburg on May 02, 2012, 01:28:58 PM
Hanz,

I've handled GMTII C before, but never checked the supposedly different colour of the bezel due to the different lightings, etc.

I'm not wearing the Sub C today, so will have to wait until I'm back home to verify your conspiracy theory.

Ok, amateur's experiment done, and I can safely say that your theory is correct. Even though I tried to make the Sub C's bezel's colour looks different by exposing it to different exposures of lights, it stays black in all circumstances.

Thanks for the photo.

It's amazing what rolex can do to a 40mm case.

They're the same diameter but not the same size!  :o

I would say the 14060 is the max for me. My wrist just don't agree with the new sub  :'(

Tyler,

The 14060M is actually not similar in the case size to the 116610's, as the former is 39.5 mm whilst the latter is 40mm. Coupled with the 116610's super case, it's understandable that it looks bigger. But having owned both, I can say with certainty that if a 14060M can sit on your wrist safely, it's hands down than you could also pull the 116610 off.

My point exactly. The supercase have a much larger presence visually while the diameter of the case remain. Mind you if u.measure the 14060 with its bezel the size is actually 40mm. The case itself maybe 39.5 but the bezel stick out a little making the overall size 40mm.

Hence I applaud rolexs's engineering skil for having achieve an increase of size but without an increase of diameter.

However with this approach we lose some elegant of the watch, which is not.really a bad thing. It's a sport watch after all.

I myself find the watch look disproportion with the supercase.

Yes, I can spot a supercase on my wrist no problem but I much prefer the older case. Sign of age maybe.

Regard
Tyler

No worries mate. ;)  Even though I never intended to make the running tap water shot to look like a frozen water, to my surprise you're not the first to think as such. I guess that's the power of a picture ... playing with our minds and tricking our eyes. ;D
