A friend wants to get a understated dress watch that can take a beating.
Something smaller and fits better under his cuff. Currently he's wearing a Santos 100 (the one with the rubber bezel and strap).
At first it's a shoot out between Explorer I and Railmaster. After a few readings on the net the selection grows larger. Seems there are a few contenders in this weight category.
Which one is your choice and why?
BTW.. we will drop by one of the AD's here to do a side-by-side comparison sometime next week. Meanwhile ..input from brothers are most welcome.
cheers

For Guys.....its Rolex Explorer
-
I will go for Exp 1 or IWC Mark XVI ;)
But since i can only vote 1, i will go for.......ai...EXp1 since personally i don't have 1 yet and i like the design ;)
Cheers!
scott
p/s: voted exp1 btw..

There is that I like in the list but if I need to choose one, that will be IWC Mk XVI.
-
Go for Rolex Explorer I... cool watch!

Fred, Alvin, have you'll voted? Click the button above?

voted.
-
Can I start a poll for women? :D
-
thanks for voting folks!
yeah ... seems no one voted for the Omegas
the reason i placed in the omegas is because of their sizes. Since he's so use to wearing a big watch..i'm not sure how he would take to a 36mm watch in the explorer.
the rest i think is round 39-41mm.
-
Voted Explorer I
your friend won't go wrong with Explorer I.
It's classic all occasion watch.

voted for lorex...

Hey terrence, I prefer Rolex Explorer but omega railmaster not a bad choice too!
-
Preferred the simple elegance of Exp I :)
-
over whelming response for the expy.. ;D
IWC comes in second. i see that it's only bundled with a leather strap and option to purchase a bracelet. is that the case? if so how much is the bracelet?
-
Exp 1 and IWC Pilots don't qualify as dress watches. The closest are the Omegas. I will vote the railmaster in line with your question.
If I am the one buying, Mark XVI gets my vote.
-
Actually i am the total opposite as lilpronaz as i think both the Exp1 and Mark 15 is suitable for dress because of their smaller size.
The IWC fits best then next the Exp1.

Tough choice. Had a hard time choosing between:
Explorer 1:

or the Aqua Terra:

In the end, after much deliberation, I voted for the EXP1 since Scott likes it so much.

wow...never realize that the dial of omega seasmaster co-axial is so beautiful :o good shoot danny

No disrespect but the definition of a dress watch does not solely lies on the size. Most enthusiasts agree that a dress watch will generally posess these characteristics: thin case, few/no complications, uncluttered dial, minimalist hands and indices. By definition, Exp 1 and Mark XVI are considered sports watches and are instantly eliminated if the context of the question is to be taken seriously.
If the question is with regards to which watch to buy given the 4 options, the choice would have been entirely different.

DC

yeah managed to get all 4 watches together in Bucherer .... you guys are right the Expy I looks best. Even my missus says so too.
the price for IWC is round 2.8k and 4.1k for both the strap and bracelet model respectively.
i must admit the IWC bracelet looks ill designed for the case unlike the rolex and omega whose case flows seamlessly together with the bracelet.
Omega must be doing well in it;s marketing over in the mainland.... seems most of them are buying the brand.

I'll certainly post pics of my GSs once I have the time to take some proper pics which do them justice.
In the meantime just to whet the appetite of fellow members please see the Grand Seiko catalogue (http://tamhk.com/mwf/index.php/topic,148.0.html) which I had previously posted.
