hi all,
Planning to buy a watch and wish to hear some advice, any brand and model which is good buy?
budget: 10k - 15k (rm)
style: classic (preferred)
winding: automatic
daily wear: yes
my wish list of brand, (again this only my wish list)
- IWC (1st)
- Panerai (2nd)
- Omega (3rd)
- Patek Philippe (all time)
Comment welcome please.
Beside, can i assume the price for watches are control price item, so regardless which distributor i go, the price is more or less the same?

From your wish list, your budget allows you to get an IWC or Omega.
Panerai too.(only manual wind base models)

Why don't you go through the catalogue of models from the brands you've stated and then come back and ask us the pros and cons of your chosen model.
That would be more specific cause ur criteria is too broad and not exactly that clear cut.

yea...agreed with ck77, can go for IWC or omega.
iwc portofino or omega deville. both looks classic and elegant

But few days before i did went there and ask about the watches and i found that the cheapest portofino is at RM17k retail, not yet discount, but i heard its about [No discussion on discount- Mod] if I'm not wrong.
So what happened is that I'm quite "du lan" that day the shop close early so i went to Tag next door and bought a Grand Carrera Calibre 8 for 12k, till today i never regret my decision, its a lovely watch.

Always do purchase with peace of mind. Not just buy for the sake of buying.
End of the day, will regret with impulse buying. Great, theres no regret on your part.

no nid to 'dulan' coz their service is very bad compare 3 years ago. standard discount from AD is [No discussion on discount- Mod], but u can get higher abit if you go to dealer. I use to own a pcs of aquatimer bt due to the material, i sold it within 6months.
i think Tag is a nice choice

I believe TS did not specifically mention if its new of pre-loved.
With TS budget, you can get a lot of high quality pre-loved watches. Just look at the garage sale thread here... :)
If TS wants something new...a classic looking watch is NOT PAM!!!!!. Like many mentioned earlier its IWC or Omega.
My choice would be a PO (2500) for the classic divers look. Mark XVI IWC for the classic Pilots look. If TS wants something "pure" classic..perhaps a Rollie would tickle your fancy. The Milgauss/Explorer 1 fits right in the upper range. Seen on a website going just above the upper threshold of your budget!!

if brand new and classic, then IWC will be the one, I think more or less you have made up yr mind, otherwise IWC will not be No.1....If still undecided, go and try on your wrist first before making the decision, well, you can always go in and out a few times to try those watches...there is life and death, so take your own sweet time ;D

You may want to try getting a Zenith Elite from that budget. I think a Zenith SS Elite Captain or the SS Elite Ultra Thin in leather strap is probably well within that budget. The designs of these 2 Zenith models give a truly vintage feel and you have the benefit of an in-house movement that is well tested. Good luck. YOu can google the internet for some really nice pics to help you with the decision making. ;)

I wanna to know what quality (and sexy) watches that i can get within that budget. Of course IWC would be my lure but perhaps with that budget i could only get a very very basic entry model, so then again i open to know / learn what other watches that i can / should consider.
Honestly, i never know with that budget i can get a Zenith.
For certain reasons going to the shop for window shopping may influenced by many factors, especially the sales just trying get your sales done. And internet catalog again is just too many options and price may not be equally the same in Malaysia. I will sure go to the shop after i shortlisted my choices.
Ok back to the watches.

Plus , ML price in Msia is quite competitive . Certain models can get cheaper than Internet price . ;D

Aside from Zenith, your budget should also get you the 2011 Breitling Transocean (no chronograph). Vintage design, curved sapphire crystal, leather strap or mesh bracelet, COSC rating. It's about 43mm, and feels like an IWC Portuguese. :thumbsup:

With that budget, I would go for Zenith Captain Elite Dual Time.

Other Breitling models are just too bling for my taste.

For me, iwc for those price only can get a
Entry leval, big brand btw , why not think of zenith like our bro hans , he is the pro here now, Rolex ex 1 aso not bad right... Go a window n decide

I am not a sifu, but just an entry level guy who had done serious load of research before I bought my first premium watch..so I can understand your predicament in trying to get the "grail". As for Zenith...many AD give generous discounts for Zeniths. You may be surprise as how much XX% you can get it off...just like GP (that was how I ended buying my first GP). But seriously...IMO the only Zeniths that tickles my fancy are the El Primero High Beat...but they do cost a fair beat. Anyways..back to your selections..
Is your budget in RM or USD? The Portofino lists for USD9k plus...I doubt you can buy it at RM15k. The Omega De Ville lists at USD7k. But IMO...between the 3, let me mix and match it up and present you the BEST choice..
A IWC Vintage with Blue dial....Ingenieur Automatic Edition Laureus Sport For Good Foundation. Perfect!!! an IWC with the blue dial..like the De-ville. Last I saw it was cheaper than the Porto...so save $$$ as well :Laughing_on_floor:

Well, you may want to consider the followings:
1. IWC pilot mark 6 (Good entry IWC watch with good look).
2. Omega seamaster (Very classic look).
3. Omega speedmaster (iconic moon watch).
4. Breitling steel fish (quite affordable after discount).
Some of them are actually sports watch. But they look staunching in your suits too. just my 2 cent worth.

Well, the trend now is probably PPPR. But with limited budget, one could probably only stick with rollie and pam. Also if changing watch is on your mind, try to stay away from iwc, ML, zenith, GP etc. Cos most of them have very weak resell value. Even pam resell value is not too good. rollie is the best bet (but u will lose a bit of money too unless u get a special or limited edition).

Montblac timewalker, Tag Heuer Monza is nice IMHO, Omega Co-axial... they are classic looking watch all within your preferred budget too. Good luck in your watch hunt :D :D
