Agreed with bwee's suggestion.
You can look around the following brand which may meed your budgets :
1) Orient
2) Citizen
3) Seiko
Reason why only Asian's model is proposed here is that your budget of RM1K is for 2 watches. If you want a Swiss watch, 1 watch already will cost you around RM1K or more.
Another alternative is Russian watch as proposed by khanwooi.

Before buying the watch that you wanted, bring your  partner and have the watch on your wrist (both you and your partner). Reason is you may like the watch, but your partner don't or vice versa. If both of you like it, and within your budget, go for it, man.

Cheers.

Once you go Vintage,
You are never oudate,
Coz' Vintage is an item,
Which will "WOW" everyone of Them !

Yes, Angryrodent is right. Some vintage need not cost a bomb. To get a "His & Hers" vintage watches within RM1K is possible. A 1970s watch will meet your criteria, I think. Look at some of the vintage site or goto some of the pre-owned shops and check around.
