If its juz casual friend, i would say "well, its my money so i buy whatever i want with it, i am not borrowing from u or whatnot, so u buy what tickles ur fancy and i buy what tickles my fancy... Period"

I will tell them wearing a watch is one of the very few ways men can express themselves, especially in the work place where everyone wears similar long sleeve shirts,
your watch is the only thing that stands out.

my watch is also hand decorated, engraved and assembled by the most talented and hard to find artisans in Geneva.

Horology, like music and paintings are an art form.
Watches are like small engineering marvels that can be worn on your wrist.
It carries a long history of more than 100 years.
let's not forget good watches also hold their value very well.

If the guy plays golf and is not a single handicapper or pro, I'll ask him why he pays RM 3K for just a driver/putter when he can buy a whole used set  from Cash Converters for a few hundred bucks OR why does he pay big bucks for the most expensive golf ball in the market when u can buy 1 whole bag of used balls from the stalls outside the course since his score won't be better anyways..

depending on how well u know the fellow and how polite you wanted to reply him.

But this never fail and will normally hit him on his face.

"because i like the watch and i can afford it"

your friend will reply, why don't u invest in blah blah blah and i'll reply "i already have some of those, and I really like the watch, so I don't mind having it"

and if he still insisted the RM20 watch will work just fine then i'll reply "women have their branded hand bags e.g. LV, Gucci, Chanel. Men have their watches. The free Isetan plastic bag works fine, why did you get her branded hand bags?"

if he didn't get any of those, he just being envy of u.

if he's rich and doesn't get it, he's either stingy or being humble. If he's being humble, he would have understand that his RM20 watch is a junk. Else he's just being ignorant.

you should look at him in the eyes, in the most passionate manners, and say.."it is all because of LOVE!"
