Non flipper

Flippers usually think of the resale value of a watch before buying it and as the saying goes, "buying a watch with an intention to flip it is like marrying with an intention to divorce"

Flipper.
I flip some of the watches to purchase a better watch. Best and least painful way to upgrade.

Very difficult to define flipper and non flipper.
In any hobby of collecting, you can't be keeping every single piece that you buy.
Sooner or later, some will have to be sold to steamline the collection or as GMac said, to upgrade.
A person that sells some of the watches in his collection does not mean that he is a flipper.
During earlier collecting years, everyone is a flipper...
As time goes by, you get better at knowing what you want and the collection will be based on that... what you want.

i'm not a flipper yet. i might become one when the situation dictates it. i used to think i was a one watch guy. now it's more than one but still under control. maybe when it gets out of hand, i have to become a flipper when i see something new that catches my eye.

I am no a flipper but when you have already to owned a few good value watches you will have less wrist time for those lower range watches which you use to wear it. So what are you going to do about it ? Hopefully to sell it and upgrade to another dream watch.

Totally agree with Ericer, I have to flip my watch to a better one due to limited budget,  :Laughing_on_floor:

I started this hobby some 2 years ago. During the first year I bought 5 watches. With the existing 2 that I have, by the end of 1st year, I owned 7 watches. I then rotated my wear according to occassion and mood.
In my 2nd year, i discovered more exciting watches thro mwf and from friends. My friends then told me to restrict my collection to 7 pieces, lest it gets out of hand. I have the priviledge to speak to dsiew,  our pam specialist and he concurred that a beginner must know when to say 'no'.
As I wanted a pam gmt88 and the blue sub, I sold two of my least favoured watches. Not that I did not like it but its more for monetary reason. Also I am more attracted to the new design.

I suppose some of those who 'flipped' shared common objective as me. Unless it is really collectibles, there will always be the next holy grail. My collection does not increase but the
total value surely does.

I think I will continue rotating my watches except for those truly collectibles. But I dont think I can afford it for now.

There are so many flippers here, but why do the polls say otherwise?

You need to define what is a flipper. To me, a flipper is one who buys a watch and sells it for profit. He (or she) picks and choses which watches or models to buy with the intention to sell at a profit and not to use. So, if the definition is such, many of us here are not flippers as the watches we sell do not make up money and the loss on the transaction (in monetary terms) were compensated by the joy and happiness attained when using the watch.

But if your definition of flipper is someone who sells a watch or many watches, then most of us are guilty.

If you are buy and sell to make profit, you are not a flipper, you are a trader....

I think a flipper is one who buys a watch, sees another, sells any watch in his possession to go for the other. In this sense he 'flips' his watch for another. Thats how i define a flipper but everyone has their own interpretation so I may be wrong.

Due to confusion on the meaning of 'Flipper' term, I am locking this topic.
