Title: Seiko 5 Sport 100M SNZG09K1 military watch - a review
Post by: meoramri on February 09, 2012, 02:58:25 PM
I own a Seiko 5 Sport 100M SNZG09K1. This is a military style automatic by Seiko with green nylon strap. It uses the 23 jewel self-winding mechanical movement called 7S26 series. The case is 41 mm without the crown. It has a day and date function as well. The case is stainless steel

It has LumiBrite hands and markers for great visibility and hardlex crystal for superior scratch-resistance.

The finishing is bead blasted to reduce the possibility of reflection (this is a military watch). Nevertheless, the bead blasting did not extend throughout the whole watch. The area covered by the wrist band is still shiny.

For a military watch, the information on the dial makes it less of a "military" watch in my view. The big "Seiko 5 Sports" logo confuses the reader. If the dial is a big 44 mm, then it is a possible. As it stand, too cramp for my liking.

You need to get use dto the canvas wrist ban. Unlike a Nato band, the canvas is too rough and hard, it should be soft.

The back is a see through screw down case back. Its water resistance is 100 meters.

As an automatic watch, this is one value for money investment (got it for just RM355, new).

hi meoramri,
looks like we have similar taste.
Both of us have Anantas and now we both this same military model except mine is in black.
I wear this whenever I travel by backpack to dodgy countries. On work assignments I use the JLC Grande GMT...
I used to keep 2 Seiko's for such backpacking duty, this and the Black Monster but the Monster was running like +20-25 secs/day whereas this Military is only approx. +30 secs after a week. I was lucky with this watch I guess. I sold off the Black Monster as I only need one watch for such travel.
The military is not really accurate in the actual sense as I've monitored it daily before. It gains between 4-8 secs per day which is not consistent at all but for a watch that costs under RM 400 it is really unbeatable. Despite my rough backpacking use there are no scratches on the bead blasting so far and I've had this for 4 years.

About the movement, isn't it 7S36 instead? I did some research lately on either getting a Black Monster or Neo Monster, and understood that the 7S36 movement comes with 23 jewels while the 7S26 only has 21 jewels.

Let me go back and check the watch. Will get back to you whether it is really 7S36 instead of what I mentioned earlier.

Oh no worries, it is quite interesting to read about the difference between the two movements. It seems that although the 7s36 has two additional jewels, it actually does not add any value. Anyhow, finally made my impulse buy on a Black Monster and it looks so much better than pictures. I am quite impressed with the overall build of the watch for the amount paid. Heck, it was even cheaper than a DKNY watch that I bought many years ago.

I have the same watch but black in colour.
But it always move faster than normal time ... like 5 min in a day.
Kinda frustrating to adjust it back in time.
Know any good watchman for calibration.
Had it for almost 3 years.
