the only i can think of is replica watch. But is better to get something genuine with warranty since is wedding gift. With your limited budget, u can check on seiko o orient, they produce quite nice classic watch.

By the watches you posted, you prolly want something swiss made.
With your budget, its really best to stick with japanese brands. But if you can stretch it to maybe 1.5k, you can look into tissot.

Good luck.

try the brand arbutus. You would be surprised at the different choices available and some look like the ones you are going for and I believe they also retail <RM1000.

Hi amy0385,

First of all congratulations!

Like G.Mac, I would also like to suggest the Arbutus brand. This is the one that I own, Arbutus Propeller Mens Automatic Watch AR0055BB:

(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZfClzqSTXGc/TxYfzi6ZqpI/AAAAAAAAPXQ/J5DfnN3Du74/s640/2012-01-18%2B09.26.58.jpg)

(http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS7ojR2c3RfIUyCb6MZEpX84l_9vmLEFpp4Lt_xTRy1J6TMELGY) For a price that is well below your budget, you get:

A day, date, month calendar;
Leather, with deployment buckle with push button;
24 hour indicator with moon/sun phase;
Display back.

amy....u can also try invicta brand....very nice design for what u paid... advisable to buy online...
also try the Citizen brand...the new line up is so gorgeous...even the automatic one....a few are not using miyota instead their own in house caliber...

i am looking for Citizen NP3010 myself...it is so damn handsome with in house caliber, 40 hours power reserve, 21 jewels, and damn gorgeous blue hand....24hours subdial thought not the second time zone....wont believe the price though... surprisingly affordable...

I think this is sound advise. Although RM20k might be abit overkill (depending on your budget).

You are basically buying a watch to commemorate your wedding hence the budget should be equal to the cost of the engagment diamond (2 months pay according to jewelers  :Cheers:)

If RM1k is the max u will go (or how much u think your hubby is worth  :Laughing_on_floor:) then u should go for Seiko, at least u will know that the watch/brand will still be appreciated 20 yr fr now.

bro, if 2k is the budget, i think maximum squeeze oso can get double. from 2k can jump to 20k then tat will no budget can say edi. hahaha..... wedding nid to spent alot money lah. so watch is just a gift. as for status, ask the husband buy himself if he want the status... :Laughing_on_floor:

no la, i disagree...budget shouldn't be an indication of how much u love ur husband-to-be...if you both really love each other, even a self made paper origami has more sentimental value than a Credor...

for your budget i would say get an automatic Seiko/Orient...something that will last as long as your love for each other  :thumbsup:

If you're buying a watch for your future husband, just go with what you think will suit him and within budget.
As for the status part, if he wants status, he can buy it himself.
I agree with Omnipotent, it's the thought that counts.
Not everyone can have 5 figure budget for a watch.
I would recommend a tissot or a mido... both are reasonably priced.

if the watch is a reflection of what we are worth, then a lot of us should be getting Pateks or Rolex-es. If your wife comes to you with a seiko 5, then better no need to get married.   :Laughing_on_floor:

If the budget is limited to RM1k, don't go for wrist watch. Try to find vintage pocket watch.

+1 :thumbsup:

In my opinion,

If your husband is looking to own something worthwhile, how about putting the money in a savings or shares account and start off a watch fund for him.

Or you can discuss with your parents, or/and parent in laws to do away with gold jewellery and combine the funds to get him a gentleman's watch.

If your husband to be truly loves you, he'll wear anything that comes from you. Not all men equates watches to status. Some wear expensive watch but have empty wallets. What kinda status is that? More like ego and pride.

Just stick to your budget. Buy what you think it's best. Even the cheapest can carry most value in his heart (as it's from you).

Any idea what was the Seiko Chronograph Automatic price at that time?

If we are talking about 30 years ago... a new Rolex Submariner Date was about USD1k.

That's where you are wrong and will be surprised to know. Some spend all their money or worst swipe their plastic and end up being broke or in debt for months. I've seen many in such situation just because they try hard to keep up with their peers. Pure stupidity.

I agree with both Hanz and Omnipotent. For Valentine's many years back, I got my wife a Tag as a gift and she gave me an Adidas digital sport watch in return. Till this day, I value and treasure that watch more than any of the Rollies, JLCs, IWCs, Cartiers, PAMs, and Hublot we both have.

It can be a 5, 6 or 7 figure price tagged watch, but who gives a tool hood, you shouldn't bother what others think of too. Key is, the thought always comes first and it will last to be cherished.

last i looked, this was a _WATCH_ forum.

how each person decides to fund his purchases is purely up to the individual. we shouldn't be calling anyone names just because they aren't prudent with their cashflow.

Mido Barocelli is below RM2K, good as dress watch.

Or Seiko/Orient/Tissot should fit ur budget.

I was looking for a watch below rm1k too and found that there are some top 10 list of poor mens watches, if that helps.

Personally, I would go for a Seiko.

This thread has been going on for some time, the OP decided yet? Seriously, don't get any other non mainstream watches if your future husband is not a WIS. Either go citizen, seiko or go for any nice looking boutique brand like ck, fossil, guess etc. don't even think of stretching your budget because once you start, you'll regret you didn't stretch it a little further. The last I checked, ck has some nice couple swiss made quartz within your budget. tats 2 matching swiss made quartz and some spare cash for a nice dinner.

Seriously Tissot & CK advise from a WIS forum??? Y not get a digital watch with 15 different alarm tones  :Laughing_on_floor:

Although many do not want to admit it, but this hobby does involve a whole lot of snob appeal and elitism hence branding (heritage?) and 'prohibitive pricing' is of paramount importance. Much like a woman's handbag it is not so much the look or material rather the brand, cost and the current fashion fad.

Case in point - show a pam vs. a luminox to a non-WIS and chances are he will prefer the luminox or tell u both watch are fugly compared to his swatch/ seiko.
