Title: WKOOI's Collection
Post by: wkooi on January 04, 2012, 02:47:49 PM
Allow me to share some of my humble collection. I've stopped collecting since many years ago. I was able to find some old pictures of my collection from my al cheapo camera.  ;D

Here's one I bought for my Home Minister in 2005, a JLC automatic, exact cal. unknown, so HM wouldn't impose ISA on me. It seems to work!  :Dancing_banana:

IWC cal. 89. manual winding. Based on its serial number, it should be from 1940s or 50s. Bought it in 2003, the stock second hand is losing grip, installed a aftermarket part as interim solution. :-[ Anyone here has the part for sale?

I am impressed by the vintage Rolex pieces.
Furthermore, the ori. strap still attached to them.  :thumbsup:

 :thumbsup:. Wonderful vintage timepieces from Rolex and IWC. We don't get to see these everyday here on MWF.
Thanks for sharing.

 :Cheers:

Thanks for the comment. I wish to clarify that the Rolex straps aren't the original. Their original should be on steel bends which are very hard to find. I just "dressed" them with original Rolex leather straps.

That is quite a rare rolex with it's own leather strap

It's still telling time rite ?  ::)

Sadly that I don't take care of them more often than I used to be. Most of them sat on my desk collecting dust.  >:(

Thumbs up from one vintage lover to another. Do enlighten the rest of us with a little on the history behind the watches and how you acquired them and most importantly WHERE you acquired them if you don't mind. :thumbsup:

1 question though (no offence to WKOOI's enviable collection), is it blasphemy to polish the watch (rid of the scratches) & clean the rust from the dial?

Or do collectors prefer the 'vintage' look?

I think it's up to each individual collector's taste. For me, I would prefer to keep them as they are so to reflect their age, else they may appear as they've been restored or rework. Under normal circumstances, there are bound to have oxidization, dust, wear & tear, etc. here and there. I do wear them sometimes but not just keep them in my safe.

Well, I guess different folks, different strokes.  ;D
