This being the holiday season, I was quite keen on a new timepiece. Also since I am relocating, it would be a while before i will get another watch. So whilst browsing at my usual dealer, i came across these 2 pieces and I cant make up my mind between the two to purchase. I love the PAM because it has a gmt function plus an 8 days movement with a PR indicator. Whilst so, the daytona is a more logical choice in the event if i were ever to need money, it can be sold in a jiffy and it would be easier to sell compared to the PAM. I love it also but between a chrono and a gmt/PR watch, i prefer the latter and find them more useful. Should i go for function over logic? Need feedbacks as soon as possible to make an informed decision.

Logically I would get a 233 but if it doesn't grow with you, ur interest will vain and it is harder to let go. Buyers are there for 233, matter of agreeable price I believe which says that either you selling it off @ a hefty discount or you don't get a sale. OTH if the Daytona doesn't suits you, you can alwiz sell at price not too big of discount. But after much thoughts u "die2" also 233, then get a 233. in summary, when ur interest in tat piece you hv bought withers, u gonna lose money. it is just a matter of how much.

Which one sings to you more? Sure bet is the Rolex. The Panerai, well prices are not doing so well nowadays.
-
Logically take the PAM 233? First time i heard this argument bro sshark. I'd thought the Daytona is the logical one. From the singing point of view, both sang at the same volume that i cant take both of the wrist but i cant bring both home either. I was initially certain to bring home the 233 as i was building up towards obtaining it but suddenly the thought," Daytona also similiar priced, why not have a look?" came up and i make the mistake of trying both on. Now life has thrown me 2 equally good choices and I cant pick one. Lesson of the day, buy fast and go home. Still would like to hear more on the matter.

I would go with the Daytona... and then later if PAM still sings to you.. well we all know cash can be found somehow if the want is strong enough and it doesnt hurt the family.
-
Logical in ur point of view. You mentioned that it serves better for you than Daytona. How many find the chorongraph is really useful? Now how many find the date, the 2nd timezone is useful especially those who are traveling in different timezones for pleasure and/or business? Also not to forget Daytona has no date function but it definitely looks sportier compare to 233. Probably another question to ask is, do u want a sporty watch or a functional watch? :)
-
Bro GMAC,
Get a GMT Master if you haven't got one.. Got the functions and the price stability.
-
Point taken guys. I'd know what I should do for now. Bro Rusminag, I do have the GMTIIc already. Just want another new piece. Thanks all. Lets see what the outcome is. In the meantime, I'd still take suggestions.

Which daytona you are looking at? Panda dial? Zenith movement? SS?

Which daytona you are looking at? Panda dial? Zenith movement? SS?
116520 is SS and comes only with white or black dial and Rolex own 4130 movement. personally find the white to be easier to read. not a PAM fan so you would know my choice
price wise, i don't think the SS Daytona is still able to command the asking price now. i've been thinking of one but the asking price for new or used are more than what a good, used 116523 can be had.

G.Mac in the end it comes down to your own preferences. If you are buying the Brand im sure most will agree that you should pull the trigger on the Daytona. It'll benefit you short and long run should you decide to flipped. Albeit either one you'll loose money on it.
On the other hand, should you consider the watch function to decide, 233 will 'slam dunk' the 116520 all day. :Dancing_banana: i mean there are so many things to love about the 233 namely,
1. power reserve indicator,
2. day/night indicator,
3. GMT function, date display,
4. 1950’s case,
5. Sandwich dial, and
6. 8 days pr
Either way, both are 2 handsome watches  . Let's put it this way, go with which sings to you the loudest and get the other one next time around. Just my 2 cents.

Fr a freshie. Daytona black ss has always been my holy grail. In some HK website like happywise they have a product like for daytona cos the followers are big. Its rolex sports or daytona. Even in US n Europe, daytona stands on its own platform. Pam is in fashion now or shld we say 'happening'. Its more of a cult. But model differentiation is still blur except for the enthusiasts. Maybe daytona has been around for too long so it is not so fresh. However for freshies like me, it is still very desirable. I suppose it is a must have, at least once. Just like if we have been driving honda or toyota for so long, we yearn for a beemer or merc, at least once our lifetime. When I first got a Pam, it is a black seal cos it fits nicely on my wrist. I stl love it. Then I got a Pam 88 cos of the crown protector but it is not that comfortable though it is very loud when I dress casual. But a Rolex is stl the forefront brandname. I mean, it is in all major sports event. I dont see how Pam can surpass Rolex ever. Maybe being new, I am stl naive but I will pick a daytona and a Patek, anytime. Tq

Sry typo error. What I mean is in HK daytona has its own product line-up. It is just Daytona, Rolex need not mentioned.
I am trying to give the perspective of the two brands from a freshie point of view.

forget the PAM... and come to the dark side of two-tone Daytonas.

<not sure if i'm a allowed to say this but i'll try to not mentioned about % discounts.>
i've owned both black/white 116520 and even the PAM233.
i flipped the PAM233 after awhile becos i became obsessed with Tdials and base dials.
but those aside, i think the depreciation is about the same (if you can get discounts for the 233).
my daytonas are now my dad's prized collections, becos they were simply too small and light for me.
i still try to put one on, once in awhile for dinners since my pams don't really fit in cuffs. but no feeling.
back to pricing, the PAM233 is not an easy watch to sell, becos of price, hence the discount is much larger than the other PAM models (base models).
therefore if you look around for 2nd hand pieces, the price is much softer, but doesn't mean they bought it at retail prices, which is why the prices r softer.
if the PAM233 really sings to you, go hunt for a 2nd hand piece K series or L series (depends if u really like the dot or not). prices now are really soft in singapore and pretty tempting.
-
I think is better to get the used of panerai is a good way to go but there are some more choice if you can effort brand new price of pam233.. Is nearly the way to 10days .mate .good luck
-
G.MAC, buying a watch you love or buying for the sake of buying?
You have 5 options:
1. Buy Daytona
2. Buy PAM
3. Buy Daytona and PAM
4. Don't buy
5. Buy something else.
If you can't make up your mind, some soul searching is needed.
Sleep over it and the choice will come to you.
Sincerely, from an unqualified mental analyst.

OK now comes the conclusion to the whole story...
I went to my 'watch lock-up' to swap some of my watches. I do not have all my watches at my beck and call at all times. So it being end of the year, i decide to rotate some of my watches for my daily wear
I was looking forward to wear this...
and to go to my dealer to bring home a new piece..
However, I noticed a few things whilst i was there...
i) the box looks a little more empty
ii) i am missing some of my watches..
I was about to make a complaint and called up my family to see whether anyone has taken anything when
this peeked out from the corner of the box
(http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx236/gmac88/2011-12-12110330.jpg)
apparently i did not remember a trade i did half a year back
this however did not deter me from getting a new member although now the decision is made easier
Going to the dealer..i was about to make another trade and go for the PAM233 when this suddenly caught my eye for its lower price and sudden beauty ...
Remember when we were little and our moms used to tell us to not simply criticise another member of the fairer sex as they could possibly one day be our spouse?
Well today that advice came into my mind when i jump the gun although it has a lesser consequence than marriage ...I was criticising this watch a few days back even on this forum having seen it in the flesh and was disappointed then...well now it is a proud member of my collection and I have to apologise for my acts and harsh words..I feel a growing love towards this piece..( lets all hear the "I told you so"s)
presenting the latest member to my collection

with this, i am officially putting watch collecting on hold until further notice. Thank you for reading and thanks for all the feedbacks.
