Title: Portable Headphone Amplifiers
Post by: terrenceterrence on November 29, 2011, 05:01:41 PM
Have accumulated almost all the models of ipods all these years from classic to nano to iTouch from internet sign-ups and rebates.

Left unused at home but is thinking to convert all my CDs to lossless format and reuse my old ipods. surfing through the net, I found photos and discussion forums for headphones and these portable amps. the model numbers are too confusing for a noob like me.

since I know quite alot of members here are audiophiles, anyone have any experience in these amps and recommend any good headphones to pair it up with?

Not sure about the headphone amps, but as for headphones, try Grado?

my setup is computer (lossless) > DAC > Tube Amp > headphone (also connect to bookshelf stereo speaker)
Below is my humble setup...

For portable dac & amp, can try FiiO E7, it have DAC & AMP together.
Or maybe visit Jaben (http://jaben.com.my/shopping2/home.php)
Malaysia Head-fi store.

will try to head down to Jaben's SG branch these few days. Thanks for the tip.

Anything I should look out for in a good pair of head/earphones? saw some westones and UE with 2 wires to the earpiece and the wires could be unplugged from the pieces. What's the criteria/things to look our for?

to choose a earphone / headphone is very subjective, depend on your personal taste.
Some like heavy bass, some like wide sound stage, some like clear vocal.
Tell the staff what u prefer, they should able to recommend you a good one.
Can audit few earphone, headphone that intro by the staff.
Remember bring your ipod with your favorite song / music.

Some headphone / earphone required burn for good 100 hours. sound getting better after period of using.

just got myself a pair of UE TripleFi10 and can finally tell the difference inbetween the lossless and lossy songs in my ipod.

The difference is quite audible when a decent pair of earpiece comes into the equation.  I must say I am really impressed

Thanks for the replies everyone  :D

i love music and movies. so i bought av receiver to serve both purpose.

another reason why i don't get tube amp or class a amp because i cannot sit at the same spot all the time.

i bought a wireless headphone to use when my woman is around. wired ones sound better but for the functionality is not for me.

to test any speakers or headphone, i'll test them with jeff beck goodbye pork pie hat, howard shore concerning hobbits, nine inch nails closer and m takanaka heaven.
