Title: What do you use your chrono for?
Post by: takashi78 on October 14, 2009, 11:21:44 AM
Lets be honest we all like chrono watches coz they look "cool" and good.
But i think alot of us has little to no use for the chrono function.
I confess i have practically no use for the chrono function on my watch except for aesthetic purposes.
I have 2 one is a Tissot V8 and the other an Omega Moonwatch.

The Tissot was a gift from my dad on my graduation and the moonwatch is just such an iconic watch and i love the looks of it.

I usually tend to favor more simple dials.

So what are others opinion?

Personally, chrono function is not really a need for me or i really don't need a chrono function...

i tries my very best to use it in the following occasions:-
1) time how long my gf take to make up her mind which clothes to wear...then i can report to her that's how long i have been waited exactly...but when she's done, i usually don't say anything and "move on"...

2) time how long it take from one place to another...so that i can answer some question like "how far from your house to here?"...but the problem is, i always forgot to stop the chrono even when i've arrived...

3) time how long i have been waiting for my friend (only if i'm on time  ;D)...so that i can answer the question like "how long have you been waiting?"....but, usually i will say "just a while" regardless how long the chrono has been ticking...

All in all, i don't really put good used on the chorno, the actual usage of the chrono is to calculate how long (how much time) it take for an object travel from one place to another place with a constant speed, right? Non of the above making sense (to me)...hahahhaha

I think i don't really need a chrono watch anywhere ;) Just for the style really i think and maybe have something to play (the start and stop) with when i'm bore......  :HammerHead:

Scott

I used to time my walk / jog - mins per lap round the field. But then, since my 'speedy' developed some mechanical issue, I have 'returned' the reduced speedy to its shop. Too bad, now I missed it.

I still have my the other chrono, but then it isn't the same

chrono for you to admire the micro mechanical engineering...
chrono for you to show your fren with no chrono.... SEE u press this it runs... and U can stop it to take the total time... press this to reset!
chrono for making the dial more lively...
chrono for those who cant afford for more complex function....
chrono for a man who not in sport but feel sporty...
chrono for a man to drive slowly but had a speedy...
chrono for you play your watch when u r sitting in your toilet while waiting...
chrono for you to play with in the boring meeting...

Hi

Anybody noticed that the COSC tends to fluctuate, i.e slow down by a few seconds after operating the sub dial.
At the end of the day, your chrono would be 'slow' for a several seconds?.

Comments on this?

Loss in amplitude is a challenge for chronograph movements. Some are well implemented that the loss does not result in slowness.

No issue with my IWC so far. Spot on despite the chrono being on.

One of the reasons, why I returned my speedy (reduced). Hope not all speedys (slowness) are the same?

i did asked and studied on this...
but most watchmaker said it wont slow down the watch even the chrono running together!
the reason is the force / power from the barrel is strong enough to push all all this through....
the control is still at balance....
7750 no problem with that....
lemania 5100 no problem with that...
i do not know other design will affect it...

That's because 7750 is the best mass produced chrono available in the market. Robust and easy to be modified.
If you are bored with 7750, it's time to upgrade to a Lange Datograph or JLC Doumetre. These are definately two of the best chrono in the market.

Looking forward to pics of the movement. Flyback mechanism is always intriguing. BTW, is it German or Swiss?

Me too. I don't use chronograph function so I don't buy chronograph watch.

The only chronograph watch that I have is a gift .
