i think scott choice is possible...

with swiss eta 6498 movement...

small second at 6

breguet hands also possible.... blued....

but to maintain the cost below 2k... not posssible to get swiss case....
swiss movement cost usd 230 + swiss / german case cost usd300....
croc skin also not cheap... if dress watch we can get a big belly skin and ask chiewata to participate!

how about german made with swiss movement? budget at rm2500

Hahaha am i too cheap in suggesting RM1k budget?

But i think what Chris suggest is great !

Never thought of it also.

Maybe we should start with something very simple kinda like the MIH watch but with the "MWF" logo printed on the dial would be superb!

A. theme    -  daily wear
        function  -  handwind / moonphase

    B. case      - Material - st steel
                    - shape    - round
                    - finishing - brush / polish
                    - size       -  width  42 / 44
                                  -   height 10 / 12
                    - lug        -  screwed on....
                                  - long
                                  - curve 10 /20
                                  - strap pin hole/ screw hole...
                                  - width - 20 / 22

    C. Dial        - material - brass / soft iron / silver
                     - finishing -/ sandwich / enamel / guilloche
                     - color -
                     - index - design   - marker / roman / arabic
                               - finishing - luminous / metal / laser print / enamel paint

     D. hand      - shape   - breguet /
                     - material - blued steel

     F. Strap      - material - leather (calf / croc / lizard / snake / ostrich...) / rubber / kevlar / carbon / silicon rubber
                      - design   - color / stitching / thread color / shape
                      - tapper ?

     H movement -  Japan / china

whahah i am more of a utilitarian guy..so my taste leans more towards watches of the same type.

furthermore i work in t-shirt and jeans... so do not need a dress watch  :Laughing_on_floor:

i would say the previous design was cool...

how bout something like these to draw some inspiration upon:

Another suggestion, we could maybe contact some smaller watch companies to produce a one off special edition for us out of their current line up.
I've seen some companies or forums do like 25-50 pieces only.
Brand that come to mind maybe Stowa or Steinhart?

An existing model with special color dial and print.

wonder Stowa have enough time to produce for us or not? hehe
my watch still have to wait till Christmas.  ;D

some guys over here in singapore .. did one using an azimuth.
Title: Re: Project watch for the Malaysia Watch Forum Member
Post by: chrisyen on October 08, 2009, 12:25:59 PM
azimuth too expensive.... over price for me....

i'll use steinhart instead.... i dealed with them quite a few times...
same watch as jagbombardier... they sell their nav b at rm2k, azimuth sell jagbombardier at rm4k plus after discount...

so i assume i can get them to make the dress watch with same 6498 movement around rm2k easily....

I am interested. But not a fan of roman numerals though. To be little different, how about making it a lefty (crown on the left)?

FYI, Steinhart is currently working on a project watch for WUS forum members. But seems to be in early development stage.

Since where talking about Steinhart, may I suggest some alternatives:

Something similar to the SAWLE? I love the sterile dial. Too bad they don't have it on their regular aviation range.

Or the new triton 1000m? But expected to cost EUR800 so will bust our budget.

Lume is amazing!

if that's the direction...another worth to consider is Dievas. Something closer to home and easier to work out the logistics i reckon.

i think we have split opinion now...

some prefer characteristic watch, some dress watch...

i think we need to stick to 1 first....

(btw, i bought a sawle b4, its well built)

can we stick back to the dress marine type dial watches

case : st steel 44mm
       : polish/brush/beatblasted
dial   : white / silver
          roman / arabic
          guilloche / painted
hand  : blued steel
         marine / breguet
crystal : dome/flat sapphire
caseback : see through sapphire
bezel       : polish
buckle      : folding clasp/pin buckle
movement : soprod decorated eta 6498 .... blued screw & cdg bridges
lug witdh : 22mm
crown     : onion / diamon / normal
strap     : leather
             brown / black, stitching?

I don't know about you. But I would prefer something evergreen, just like Yen proposed.

The funky piece shown here is interesting and impressive, but once the trend / fashion faded, I / we are back to square one.

3. get the quotation
4. confirm the price
5. payment
6. MWF 1st big GTG with forum watch !

tourby would be a bot expensive then steinhart. how about wilson watch work, good made and not that expensive. but the only thing is that he does not have the type of design WMF required ( I guess).

The enamel dial looks great! I like the thick case too. A bulk discount possible?

We could get a quotations from various watchmakers and have a vote.

UPDATE !

contacted mr tourby....

the price can be lowered to EURO 480 if we take out the screw balance, swan neck, maple box and genuine croc strap.... (not inclusive of engraving)

to hv all that price is double....

if order exceed 30 numbers engraving is free!

Box and strap i think is no biggie.
What effects will it have if we take out the screw balance and swan neck?

Does this price include some sort of wording on the dial like "MWF LE xx/30"?

but we do not hv the numbers to get this engravement free....

can we count ?
Title: mr tourby commend bout the swan neck movement
Post by: chrisyen on December 09, 2009, 07:07:28 PM
quote from mr tourby about the swan neck movement !

Hi

the swan neck movement is a good choice

The price for 850,00 Euro for the whole watch with this movement and genuine croc is absolut FANTASTIC

The swan neck movement with the Glycudur screw balance is very expensive these days... if you can get it.

You will see a price BOMB on this unitas 6498 swan neck movement very soon.

Please keep in mind that this movements have a delivery time of 12-24 months. This means we (Tourby, Stowa etc.) orderd this movements 2 years ago for a affordable price.

But in the last 2 years this ETA movements have a price increase of 20% - 50%.

Should Tourby or Stowa order this movements today... we would pay 30% more as 2 years ago.

And this means we will make the prices higher very soon...

I have 50 Timepieces of this movement left. When this are sold out will sell the next run with 20% higher price beacuse i paid 30% more for the new order of movements.

And you will see that Stowa will make a 20% price increase very soon on this swan neck models when their actual stock should sold out.

regards
Tourby

Does this indirectly indicated that in year 2010 we will see a huge increase in watch price for most brands?

quote from mr tourby about the swan neck movement !

Hi

the swan neck movement is a good choice

The price for 850,00 Euro for the whole watch with this movement and genuine croc is absolut FANTASTIC

The swan neck movement with the Glycudur screw balance is very expensive these days... if you can get it.

Hi guys,
Count me in for this watch. I think it's worthwhile to pay up for the swan neck movement. I recently ordered a pilot watch from Tourby with the Swan neck movement. Should be arriving early next week. Will try to post some pics of the movement as soon as I can.
We'd better hurry to place our orders before his stock runs out.

1 Euro= RM4.9121

850 Euro= RM4175.30

wow, that is beyond many forum member's budget.

i have a suggestion, can we also have a cheaper japanese movement mwf watch project at the same time?

so that member like me can also enjoy the happiness for getting a unique and meaningful watch.

Agree with David. Initially when this thread started, the price of the basic watch was EUR650. Now Tourby has increased price to EUR850? Please correct me if I'm mistaken. Also, the Euro rate has gone against us.

At RM4k, its over my budget too. Can we consider an alternative or get the "stripped down" version?

that rm4k is for swan neck version....

Hi guys,
IMHO at 850Euros is a relative bargain because we're being offered the swan neck version of the Unitas by Soprod, not to mention the Glucydur screw balance. If I'm not mistaken the movement is a close cousin of the calibres ticking in the base PAMs, and we all know how much these PAMs cost. When you factor in these extras the price is quite worthwhile. Just my 2 cents.

Hi,

I believe the quoted price (EU850) is not inclusive of S/H, right? What do you guys think about Stowa marine original? It has about the same spec......but the price is cheaper (around EU760 for roman markers)......

shipping its cheap... i believed tourby can adsorb...

stowa case is smaller ! and stowa wont be abe to deliver....

i got n options...
we can still order the same watch together... and each individual can op for their movement!
we can still engrave the MWF on the caseback or laser print on the dial!

the other cheaper source is steinhart...

they are selling above three
euro 385 for the 1st non plated case and euro 400 for the plated one...

that is inclusive of 19% vat....
so its much cheaper....

from the 3 models, how about we ask for
1. st steel case
2. white dial
3. blue hand

but size is 47mm... they do hv 44mm st steel case!
they also hv better finish movement!

When you said Stowa not able to deliver, does it meant they don't deliver or just late.......I had ordered a the Stowa Flieger b4 and it took around 6 months time to deliver......a bit slow. But I really don't mind and I believe most of us choosing these watches not as their primary watch........

While it just another alternative which we can consider and I believe if we make a bulk order, the price can be lower than EU760......btw, the S/H charges is around EU30 if I remembered correctly......

Yeap, the stowa case is smaller and I wonder is it an enamel dial too......

Steinhart sounds good Chris. I like the spec you proposed.
Price is attractive as well.
I think the LE words laser on dial looks good.

I think maybe it's time to revive this thread to stir up some iterest again.

i was browsing through the Stowa catalog and thought maybe the Antea series would make a fine forum watch.

it's simple... affordable...looks stunning.. a lil' history both behind the brand and the design of the watch and also affordable.

some slight customising would not be a prob i think since they produce their watches as per orders. anyone having a fedex account can shave off VAT charges too.

also maybe it;s jsut me but ...i rather have an auto than another manual unitas based movement.

how bout it?

at +-Euro 320..it's quite affordable imho

the BIT is too expensive.

the stowa only cost 320 euro and if we omit the box..and other frills, maybe can get a bit lower kua. any master negotiator here?

maybe that would fare better and also set a budget which everyone is comfortable with and work within that budget

with the euro at it;s low right now... kinda good deal dont you guys reckon?

wow! count me in for this!

well! just my 2 cents...nowadays! initials are boring and out....lots of company are creating logos to be assosiated with....well! of course this is a good marketing...

well! it would be good if MWF could come out with some nice logo....maybe something like Panerai's logo?

anyway! i prefer diver or pilot watches...maybe something from MKII....paradive...simple and functional. We could also appeal to the divers segments..hahah!

check this...http://www.mkiiwatches.com/Home.jsp

or get a watch which shouts attention....something to talk about....this would generate more interest and maybe get more forumers...hehehe!

i think we really lack malaysian watch collectors in our forum site....but...hooray for this website/ forum...When i havent find this, i was browsing around lowyat forum and mudah.my

now i got this site..i dont browse those sites...

oh! there is also a custom watch maker from US...got a singaporean friend just sold his pilot watch to me...his prices are ranging from USD300-1000 depending on what is needed. maybe can use him....
can email me...and i can pass the contact over..
