Title: Newbie Introduction
Post by: Nick M on October 06, 2009, 03:10:24 PM
Hi Everyone,
Newbie just wanting to say 'hello'. I spend most of my time on TZ, WUS and Br-avo. So when I discovered this Malaysian forum, I felt I just had to sign up. I just have 5 watches in my "collection" - a Rolex Explorer II (white face), Bell & Ross BR03-94 SS, Bell & Ross BR02 SS (Arabic Dial), Sinn U1 and a Sinn 757. Hope to share and learn from all you guys on the Board.

Cheers!

Thanks everyone for your kinds words.

yenfoolun - I saw your Damasko and noticed the similarities immediately. It would be interesting to do a comparison.

As for the AR coating on the U1. Well, the effect was stunning. When looking at the watch dead-on, it looks like that there's no crystal there at all. But what I discovered not long after buying it was the appearance of what looked like watermarks. As it turned out, they were fine scratches on the AR coating. So I thought I might as well remove it and enjoy the benefits of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. So I used an old t-shirt and some Amway LOC Metal Cleaner. After about 2 hours of polishing and rinsing, I got all the AR coating off. There's a little more reflection now, but at least I can enjoy the benefits of the sapphire crystal.

Yup, That's what holding back my purchase on watches (with inner and outer AR coating) in the first place.

As I can foresee the scratches mark on its coating  - its give impression on 'sore' marking and thus spoilt the appearance of the whole watch. But now, after learning the 'tactic' of removing the unwanted coating (+ 2 hours manual polishing), I feel better at ease with the whole episode..

I feel comfortable getting those watches with 'only' the inner AR coating.

Thank you - Nick, for sharing. We never stop learning new things everyday.

Welcome to the forum and great collection you have there! ;D

Agree on the AR coating, either have it under or not at all.

Do come to our next GTG.

Hi Nick

Good to have u here with us

I own a 142. Had the same prob with the outer AR Coating. It looks like scratches now. However, fortis did a better job with the outer AR coating which is the other watch I own.
