hi all,
i am impressed by some of the homage watch, i have browsed a few and need some recommendation. basically i admire mm type of watch with big diameter.
i wish to get something like good stainless steel casing and ideally swiss movement.
can someone throw me a light on which is the one that is good in terms of quality and what is the cost range.
at the same time, is asia unitas a good movement (if it is from china)?
thanks.

Hard to comment - I just ordered one - still waiting for it to arrive. will comment once I get it.

mm type of watch means "military" type?
Asia unitas normally refers to Hangzhou's 9000 series movement (is a near copy of an earlier version of the Unitas 6497/6498) or the Sea-Gull ST36 (which is closer to the current ETA 6497). Whether they are good or not is anybody guess, but bear in mind they are madse in hina.
The patents on these movements have long expired and the basic design can be made by anyone. One cannot accuse the Chinese of stealing such movements. The Chinese make 6497s entirely in their factories, no Swiss parts are used. The 6497 is a workhorse design that can function just fine without it. If you're not overly concerned with Swiss image than an Asian 6497 will probably perform quite sufficiently.

This is NOT a review.
Moving it to the correct forum.

hi watchnewby,
thanks for the info. i am also having the same hesitation that the movement that made in china. i heard from people that there are those using good movement, i guess it is eta they mean.
at the same time, if the watch case is made of stainless steel (not plated), it will be fine for me.
i mean mm = marinda militare.

Marina Militare...which is the italian navy.
From experience the swiss unitas definitely winds alot smoother than its Asian/Chinese counterparts. Its not just the image IMHO, its the construction and finish of the movements too..

hai zahari,
i saw from the other thread that there are a few homage makers, namely, G*t*t, D*e*a*,...,
i found D*e*a*seems quite good as they are using swiss movement and it is germany based and sells in singapore and other parts of the world. the price is above average. however, the one that i m looking at which uses unitas movement, i think the price for the watch is quite reasonable.

what is the homage?.... ???

ok.
over the weekends i was really into homage watch. the 44mm marina militare.
i have found someone selling the new watch and the watch seems solid.
the only thing that still holding me back is i do not know whether the movment is swiss as claimed by the seller.
-
If possible, ask the seller to open the back of the watch (if it does not have a "see-through" case) to ensure that it is of Swiss origin.

Pronounced as it is spelled. The 'H' is not silent.
it's very subjective. the word is French borrowed and it's pronounced as "Or-maGe" in French.
Whereas the Americans would "AmericaniZe" all other borrowed words hence the "H" is pronounced in the word for them and "coupe" became "coup" and not "cou-pay" as the French and continentals would pronounce it.

Depends where you are from. Like a British comedian once said "We do not speak English with a accent, this is the way it sounds when spoken correctly'.

Ho Ho HO Ho Ho
as long as you're not pronounce it like this : "Ho + Maggi". :Laughing_on_floor:

I have bad experience with homage. In fact, my basic tissot and Miso are doing far more better than those homage. At least the hands and hours marker are not oxidized so easily.
