Title: Decisions....... decisions......
Post by: terrenceterrence on October 22, 2011, 02:52:49 AM
it's the time of the year again... pondering about one possible final purchase for the year. being a lowly pauper with so limited funds so must make every penny worthwhile.

narrowed down to these 4 choices and need your views and opinions.

Thanks in advance.

1. Rolex Explorer 2 Blanc 16570
2. Rolex GMT II RootBeer 16753
- Always wanted a "true" GMT watch and these 2 fits the bill nicely. Both offers a dial and variation in design that I have yet to have but with the name comes a price.

3. Chopard LUC Pro One / Chopard LUC Sport 2000
- Wonderful LUC 4.96 calibre. Poor man's FF and Aquanaut respectively with similar build quality and magnificent tech breaking in-house calibre. Practically a steal in the preowned market. Of course it would be great if the Pro One comes with a see through caseback. This is the only watch so far that I would not mind wearing inside out! Beautiful calibre.

So what do you guys think?

From there i would choose either 2 depending on the price and condition of the watch.

Rootbeer is one of 2 TT Rolex i would choose.

Chopard movt is second to non and value for money for the level of finishing and in house movement.

Explorer 2!

have no real love for rotating bezels and all the crap that tends to get stuck inside.

Was fondling the new Explorer 2, a DSSD and Sub ND yesterday but just have to tear myself away before the poison hits home.
Terrence, +1 for Root beer.

Hello terrenceterrence.

Congratulations for being able to "pondering about one possible final purchase for the year".

I will go with the Chopard Pro One because:-

- Like you said "Wonderful LUC 4.96 calibre". Try winding one. It's one of the smoothest movements I have ever wound, if not the smoothest. you don't even know if it's winding! 65 hours power reserve. Micro rotor. It does not hack though!

- Build quality. You said it. Very little comes close to the Pro One's finishing at their price point. I could be wrong but the steel used seems to be able to resist scratches better and it shines a lot more as well.

- The rotating bezel. Earlier production models have loose (easily rotated bezels). Mine was changed to the latest design when Chopard opened their flagship boutique in Pavillion, free of charge and came back with a letter that says, "Chopard will replace the bezel if it becomes loose again as long as I owned the watch". Great service.

- Rarity. Have not seen another one "live" on someone else's wrist yet.

- You can also opt for the Pro One GMT and you will have your cake and be able to eat it as well.

Have fun deciding.

Evil....................................  :D

Just when I thought I have made up my mind, you come along and show me such a beautiful piece

Back to the drawing board.....sleepless nights again  :Laughing_on_floor:

Thank you for showing me such a beautiful white dialed Pro One. Love the white better than the black too. The details on the dial is beautiful.

Too bad the Pro One GMT does not have a detached GMT hand. Or else that would be just perfect. The sapphire sandwich bezel is truly amazing   really gives the FF a run for it's money
