Title: Alpina watches. Yes? No? Maybe?
Post by: musclehedz on October 19, 2011, 04:35:20 PM
Hi all..

Been snooping around the forum for a few weeks but just decided to start posting today :)

Was wondering what you guys think of Alpina. I'm considering it as my next purchase. Didn't seem to find any reference to it in MWF either. Did some research on it and the company seems to have a long history. However, can't seem to find much watch reviews on the brand. Has anyone here had experience with this brand?

Cheers!

was initially intrigued by the brand and particularly the Alpina Extreme Regulator series. However having handled the watch at the AD plus a bit of haggling, am not willing to spend the amount on the watch. A lot of other brands can be had with the same amount of money. After a while, the interest just fade away.

I quite fancy the Alpina Extreme Regulator Full Back. I almost bought a Alpina 12 hours of racing Sebring. Very nice design but after deep thought. Decided not going for it due to the branding and after market value. And also considering the price you pay for there are whole lots of options available.....cheers.

Nice to know there are members who are familiar with the brand. The regulators seems to be  a favorite for this brand. I'm attracted to the new extreme diver, but like you guys said....there are many other options within the same price range. On the other hand, the brand being not too popular is another plus factor for me....make it a little exclusive :-)

Alpina company have a long history. This company was founded in 1883 by Gottlieb Hauser, watchmaker in Winterthur, who founded the Swiss Watchmakers Corporation. Alpina is based in Geneza, Switzerland.

However, this brand is not popular if compared with other brands in Malaysia. The reason may be the price, lack of publicity, or any other reasons. Price here is what Bro G.Mac had mentioned, ie for that amount of money, can go for other brands that one perceived to be a better buy for that person.

For me, I like their Avalance series (under their adventure category).

Cheeers.

Hmm...judging from the responses so far...I might reconsider purchasing an Alpina. May just go for the B&R 03 92 instead... :-\

Actually it is entirely up to you, if you like the watch and the brand, you should get one regardless of how members here comments, but if you still hesitating, then you should do more research and reading. Either you join the group of getting the most common brand, or get something unique that you love most... Happy hunting

siodee.....that sounds like a good advice. Won't rush into the purchase. Will continue to ponder.....see which one would have a greater appeal :-)

Cheers!

Always buy what your heart tells you too and not what other people say.
We all have our different view on the brand.
End of the day its you who will live with the watch day in day out.

Nothing with their watches, reliable eta movts.
I once had my eye on the regulator handwind.

There are so many ubiquitous Swiss brands which all use the same ETA 2824, 2892, 6497,6498, 7750, Sellita or Soprod ebauches. The only things that sets them apart is the level of finishing on the ebauche, whether or not additional improvements are made on the fine adjustment (Triovis, etc), which grade of Nivarox spring and of course the look and material of the case, dial, hands, bracelet..
If you know what is in it and the design sings to you, go ahead as long as you know what you are paying for.
