Ok, as all of you know... I am no big fan of PAMs due to my pencil wrist and the PAMs are mostly 44mm...
Doesn't look to good I can assume.
Too bad there ain't any PAM ADs here in KK so I have yet to try any of them on my wrist.
In 8 weeks time, I will be on holiday with my wife and kids in Hong Kong and I am definitely checking out the boutiques to see if there's anything that will suit me.
I have done a little homework but I still prefer to hear what the resident experts dsiewmy, hobbit and zameenzahari (seems MIA for quite some time... hope he'll be back) say about what I am interested in...
As the title suggests... it is a 42mm PAM337
Looks appealing enough for me... all the talk about the base 000 or 005 model and from the pictures I have seen on the catologue they sent me, I do not find it alluring to me..... yet....
I am hoping to try out as much PAM models in HK as possible and visit the Zenith Boutique as well... well... I am after all a Zenith diehard...
I do hope to return from HK with fond memories and at least a new watch.... ;D
So, anyone owned or saw or tried out the 337, 338 in titanium or the 339 in Rose gold here?
Are the prices hefty? I assume all PAM prices are hefty... there are only so much I am willing to pay...
And most of all, I do hope it is a regular production model and not some Special Edition that can only make my pockets weep...
And is it readily available? As I have always read about the scarcity of PAMs....
Thanks.

i think bro hobbit bought the PAM 337 recently for his wife if not mistaken. Saw it in one of his post. PAM339 is the composite material SE one and not the rose gold as you said. PAM prices are in the region of RM15k onwards so dont know if it is hefty for you or not.

hanz079,
Firstly my PAM00337 (well not mine, but it is my wife's) says hello.
Secondly, the PAM00337 has been discontinued (yes, after just one year). It is indeed hard to come by (nowadays) and was told that all 10 units allocated to HK has been sold (not sure if it is PAM00337 or combination of the PAM00337, PAM00338, PAM00336 and PAM00378). I do know that the PAM00378 is still in production being 'this years' model release. We were lucky to get the last piece from the boutique in Canton Road.
Anyway, the PAM00337 being the cheapest retails for about RM 22K.
-
Thanks Hobbs... funny how it got discontinued just after 1 year.
Any replacement 42mm model you can recommend?
-
wow hanz079 u have expensive taste for a first pam :)
yes, i heard from hobbit that this model has been discontinued but it still appears on the latest August/September 2011 price list. i wonder why. maybe panerai is just lazy to edit it out.
anyway there are no replacements that i know of yet, but hey, the SIHH is round the corner and who knows what will pop up.
btw, have u tried on a 183 or 210? at 45mm, it's not that much bigger becos of the cushion case thickness.
and a lot easier to find, and priced very well too.
may i know how big is ur wrist? (or how small).
the thing with pams is, it's a big watch, u got to accept that.
size afterall is a perception. first time, it's huge, then it's big, afterall, it's OK, later on, it becomes just nice. LOL (at least for me).
simple example:
a member here recently asked about opinions about a pam 40mm and i advised him against.
but the pam did sing to him and he bought it. not long later (a month or so), he finds it too small and now gunning for a 44mm.
this story has been told a thousand times, and if u go to the main pam site, u will know this.
-
BTW, if u want a 42mm radiomir, i suggest a PAM338, gold hands are my fav.

hanz....listen to guru of pam. he is really master on pam as i always seek his advise for any pam. but is think ppl like pam becoz of the big case. if buy small case then it will lost the pam original image. u shud go try 183 as it wont look big once u get use to it
-
Of course I listen to guru of PAM...
I have been lurking here and I know dsiewmy is the PAM nut around here... ;)
Hobbs is like the Mr. know it all... ;D
There used to be a zameenzahari which is also a hardcore Paneristi but he seems MIA for quite some time liao. ???
Anyhow, I will make sure I visit the Panerai Boutique and see if any watch sings to me...
Either way, I hope to leave HK with a new watch in my wrists...
As for the retail price, I do find it a tad excessive... but that's just me.
-
A tad? To me it's very expensive...
I would prefer the pam210 base model....
I know I am not helping.... Hehe
Anyway it's individual preference...
Have fun hunting....

is is true that buying direct from Italian AD can give better discount?
-

not exactly, a lot of them dont do any discount.
but the savings is when u get your VAT refund back, most of the time it's not full amount but roughly 13.%
-
there are ways to get full VAT rebates.
Italy is 20%, Germany is 19%.
-
thanks dsiewmy and terrence...
so for popular non LE models like base logo, pricing from Italy/Germany will be more attractive than our local ADs, provided full VAT refunds is achieved?
-
discounts are dependent on your nego skills and your relationship with the AD. Although store policies might have changed ..who knows..
Managed to get a 10% discount for my 112 and also a 5% for the first batch of the 312 couple of years back. But I must say that I bought it during the low season in Milan and human and tourist traffic are low.
-
Discount was available in AD but not boutique. My experience anyway.

hanz079,
All the best with the hunt. Personally I would go with the 45 mm Radiomir (if you are planning to get the Radiomir). Easier to move in the future.
Do check out the following:
PAM00380 cheapest Radiomir
PAM00210 Base (Thinking of putting my name down for one of these)
PAM00183

Ok Hobbs...
Currently dsiewmy have recommended the 183 as well, and you mentioned 380 as being the cheapest Radiomir
The the word cheapest have got me interested, so how much in retail are we talking about?
-
there is one for sale in the sales thread i believe. Bro dsiewmy is the seller.

call dsiew as he gt one posting in sales threats. if nt mistaken is rm13k

Thanks for the heads up on dsiewmy's sales post.
I did not notice that.
The price is OK and I hope it is still negotiable.
The biggest concern I have at the moment is buying a watch without trying it on.
It has bitten me quite a number of times.
I will leave this to fate.
If I get to try it in person in HK and happen to like it, and the price is more tempting buying it from bro dsiewmy... why not...
If it's still available that is... ;D
Thanks again for all the feedback.
-
he carried alot pam on hand. bt my advise is better to go for 44 o 45mm as this is the origin concept of pam. if buy 40 o 42mm then better buy something else. is oso easy to let go as demand is always there
-
Discount was available in AD but not boutique. My experience anyway.
Hi all,
New to this forum but have been following for sometime esp on PAM, last week i have the opportunity to visit Madrid and Doha boutique and check some of the prices, both boutique manger is very friendly and helpful and they can give a 10% discount on retail price so i brought my second Pam(312) from Madrid boutique because of the VAT refund. If compare this two boutique Madrid boutique can give a better price bacause of VAT but if compare the stock availability Doha boutique have a better choice and selection.
Hanz079, My first Pam(183) is brought from Hong Kong and it's not big at all u should try it if you come across, it's very beauty design. During my time in Hong Kong (March 2011) they only give 5% discount from the retail price either boutique or AD shop or even less for those high in demand model, i brought mine from AD shop in Tsim Sha Chui they have plenty of shop there. Hopefully you can get one there.

Hey, looks like you're back...
And just at the right time...
There seems to be alot of interests on PAMs lately... we could use more opinions...
Especially expert ones...
-
thanks all for recommending my sales thread.
basically these are the RRP:
PAM 380 - 13800
PAM 210 - 17200
PAM 183 - 18600
the typical discount for 210 and 183 is xx% depending on AD.
PAM 380 on the other hand is going nett price at AD, but premium at grey dealers (14.5k~14.9k).
reason is becos they are pricing it together with 000 which is same price.
[no discussing on discount - forum mods]
