We all love our watches, but I'm sure there are many out there who, like me, would ONLY wear a watch if it came with certain functions (besides time-keeping, of course ;)).
For me, all my watches must have a date. I depend on it so much that watches without (a date) just get put to the side and are never used. What about you guys? What functions must a watch have to guarantee wrist-time?
All the best,
Gavin

During workweek, a watch with day date would be ideal.
Weekend, just a watch with time will do.
Overseas, a watch with true GMT function.
-
i've worn my base panerais for 6months+ now and they don't have date, gmt or even SECOND hands LOL.
so i don't think there are really must-have functions.
-
I have no problem with time telling only. (two or three hands )
I have learned to memorized date on daily basis.
-
I like simple designs with just the date, day is optional.
No need for GMT or chrono.
However, there are some pieces with seconds dial that catches my fancy - Panerai & Patek, for example. ;D
Take care, Ciao!

Must have functions? Must have the ability to at least tell time.
-
Functions? must be able to tell the time. Complications? I love the power reserve indicator.

In order of importance:
1. Tell time
2. Show date
3. Day
4. Keep track of elapsed time
5. Alarm
6. Compass
7. Barometer
8. Thermometer
9. Altimeter
10. Hourly time signal
11. World time
12. Geolocation
Unfortunately I don't have a watch that does all 12 things, yet.

LOL, i think only a casio gshock or a sport digital watch can do all that.

Let's see.....
I would not leave home with a Sub without these functions/features strapped on my wrist:
1. Hyper intensified magnetic field - Powerful enough to deflect bullets and pull down a hot babe's zip
2. Serrated Bezel cum Buzz saw - can cut through steel cables an beefy ropes. Also handy in opening a can of Pineapple stuffed Lychees.
3. Concealed Laser beam on the pearl pip - can cut through steel shackles and hefty safes
4. Concealed miniature packet of plastic explosives and Remote Crown Pusher Bomb Trigger - would come in handily to blow up the wicked witch of the east.
Also a Brioni suit under a wet suit would make this a complete package.

i would love to have day date and gmt.. but i prefer the looks of just hour minute and seconds

Date used to be a MUST have function for me... but after awhile, i don't really bother because my phone is always next to me :D
I have a friend, who always wearing a watch but never look at it... he look at his phone to tell time even his TAG is on his wrist!!! Then i asked, why you wearing watch then, he said he get used to it already to have a watch on wrist just that he also get used to read time from his phone.... :HammerHead:

On mechanical watches, after Time, two most important function must be (for me), Date and a GMT function.
Digital watches: everything else! - the Casio Protrek and Suunto watches have some of the best features.
-
For me, long time ago is (in order of importance):
1. Tell time
2. Show date
3. Show Day
4. Alarm
5. Stop-watch
6. Hourly time signal
Therefore a G-shock was my choice then.
Nowadays, it is:
1. Tell time
2. Show date (for week days)
3. Alarm (for week days)
Therefore alternate among Swatch, CAT and Seiko.
Weekend either Swatch Scuba 2000 or Poljot.

Yes, me too. I also have friends, in fact 2 of them who wear watches for "show" ie to match with their clothes and not to tell time. There is one time I told my friend his watch is "dead" (He forgot to wind it up, as it is a manual winding watch) ;D
