Title: Panerai screwdriver confiscated...arghhh...
Post by: rusminag on September 30, 2011, 09:26:55 PM
Tensionnnn... My original Panerai's screwdriver was confiscated by Singapore Airport Authority. I guess it can be turned into deadly weapon..  :HammerHead:

Anybody know what is the retail price for a replacement screwdriver?

yes, the screwdriver is the first thing they scan for when u go thru the bag scan.
funny thing is they don't take the plastic pointer, just the screwdriver.

i don't know how much it goes for, but understand that richemonte service center sells them.
do let me know if you do manage to buy one. i need to replace a piece myself.

btw, the bergeon ones are a bit better to be honest (especially the one with the thick ring for better holding).

Sorry for your loss, Bro.
Was the screwdriver in your hand-carry when scanned?
Take care, Ciao!

Wow. Screwdriver also they confiscate. Sorry for ur loss bro.
How about pen then??  I believe a pen is mightier than a screwdriver.

Sorry for the loss of your screwdriver.
To my understanding, all pointed and sharp items (except pens/pencils) not allowed in hand carry luggage.
Same goes for liquid container like mineral water, shampoo, hand wash liquid etc.

no reason to confiscate. they should allow you to go back to check-in counter and ask for a tag where the item will be put in an envelope and handed over to cabin crew. you will receive your item back in the same envelope upon disembarking the aircraft. happened to me with a Swiss knife so i'm sure your screwdriver would have been allowed if you had asked for it.

They do not do that anymore because of security reasons and also because of the hassle.

If they do not allow u to bring it in the aircraft, why should they allow someone else to bring it in the aircraft on your behalf. That beats the whole purpose.

But I must say that the level of security consciousness differs from country to country.

They did ask me if I want to check-in the item.. but it was impossible to go back to the check-in counter as the boarding process already started...

Yes... It was OK when I departed from KLIA... but from Changi, they really scanned and checked 100%.. They got a nice souvenir...
