I think that guy is selling the polishing cloth for rollie (dry type)
Meanwhile I have the (wet type) bought from our member from Sg...is this what you called the cape cod cloth?
dc
-
what's the difference between dry and wet type? isn't the dry type just normal fine cloth?
if we put a little spit on the dry type, will it turn into the wet type?? :Laughing_on_floor:
-
Now I am confuse too . Are we talking about the same thing, or the Cape Cod brand selling at Metro? :Laughing_on_floor:
-
I think the dry type that David mentioned are those normal polish cloth you get with new watch purchase.
But the wet type (cape cod) can be used to buffer out hairline scratches.
Correct me if I'm wrong David.

The dry type or the normal polish cloth that was used by the dealer to 'wipe' off hand prints from watches (after handling) looks something like a spec. / our glasses cloth had a 'silken' touch.
The wet type is moist / oily to touch and is kept in a non-evaporated - sealed packet. And I have not actually utilised it until now.
And since, it mentioned here that can buffer hairline scratches...let me test it out....

Instructions and Application :
1. Use the enclosed gloves that come in the tin to help keep your hands clean. Remove a pre-moistened Cape Cod Metal Polishing Cloth & rub the tarnished silverware briskly, back and forth, but not hard with even straight strokes.

is it ok to bump up this thread?
i'd like to know if Cape Cod can fix these small issues. i know they don't look very serious but when the light is at the right angles, the scratches look quite obvious. and all these are from just wearing the watch daily over the last 2 weeks or so. if i can get a pack of this Cape Cod thing, i'll give it a try on my older Daytona with much more scratches before attempting it on this one.

also, i'm located in Kuching and if any members can tell me where to get this Cape Cod, i'd be very thankful.
thanks!

with some sweat and time, this cloth can do wonders on minor scratches...i got mine from xbay... :)
-
is there any local mail order company who sells this? thanks!
-
if you are planning to use it on the centre links... make sure u taped up the brushed side links. or else you'll polished out the brushed finish too
remove the bracelet from the head and tape up any surfaces you want to maintain before polishing it gently with the cloth.
-
ok...noob question...
can it be used on brushed surface? i.e. we stroke it in the direction of the brushing...can ka?
or is there another type of polish?
Thanks!

You can use it on the brushed surface, just that the end result is you get a polished surface. If you want to maintain the brushed surface, use the green stuff you use to wash your plates or dishes.

for brushed surface, get 3M sandblaster 320 grit, RM18.90 in home-fix stores.
i've used it and works quite nicely, tho you have to be careful you dont sand too much off especially on edges.
the one to look for is like this, basically a hard sponge.

apparently, there aren't any Home-Fix stores on this side of the water. any volunteers to mail me a pack of Cape Cod to try?
:Praying: :Praying:
-
LOL.
just saw that all home-fix stores in Malaysia are located within KL / PJ only.
sometime this week i'll go look around the couple that are near my house and see if they have any cape cod stuff.
-
Wow! Innovative choices! Ok ok, must try out bit by bit..hope i dun make it worse!
Bt that cape cod sounds promising for my beater..gotta visit homefix!
-
home-fix HQ consists of a bunch of idiots.
they've never heard of cape cod, even after checking their inventory.
then tells me, there is a product called cape for metal polishing, but stocked at bangsar village.
so i go over there, check it out, and it is indeed cape cod, but the dusting cloth - not the metal polishing one.
i asked the guy over there, and he tells me the metal polishing one hasnt been stocked for a long time due to the supplier not bringing them in anymore.
in short, screw home-fix for cape cod.
oh yea, i bought some autosol instead, works just as well and cheaper too.
just apply it on some microfibre cloth and polish away those minor scratches.

Autosol works on both polished and brushed surface?

only polished.
like i posted earlier, for brushed i've used 3m sandblaster with pretty good results.
-
Just went to homefix earlier..they've only got the dusting cloth..as earlier mentioned..
N they've only got the 100grit..
-
is Autosol recommended on 18k gold or stainless steel? my scratches look deep so maybe i should wait till service time.
thanks for checking out Home-Fix fellas.

stainless steel is still steel, no?
there is a autosol specially made for gold / silver polishing, which is much milder than the regular one.
tho for deep scratches like on your bezel, better bring it to a pro that has proper equipment etc.
the rest that you showed can be easily removed if you feel like DIY.
-
Can the autosol be used to remove the AR coating ? ... anybody tried it before ?
-
guys,
i tried autosol but realized that it will have 'swirlies' on polished surface afterwards under bright light...how to get rid of it ar? is there a particular technique to do it?
and for brushed surface, it's very difficult to get the 'grain' right especially on rounded edges like bezels... :HammerHead:
and acurusaragon, r u afraid the autosol might rub off the AR coating or do u want to remove it? :o
-
you can remove the "swirlies" using Cape Cod polishing cloth. a friend of mine got me a few packs from SG. there's a watch shop selling it and i think you can order online. Google will lead you to it.
it does the job very well for very light swirls. for deeper scratches, it might take a lot of rubbing to remove. i got tired of rubbing after a while and gave up. the polished surfaces after rubbing with Cape Cod is definitely more shiny to the naked eye.
-
dpkong, thanks for the tip...btw, u dun happen to have extra, do u? (buy from u la hehe)
xbay got but delivery is almost the same price as the item!
-
Is there any local service provider who perform watch polishing? Any contact.

I wonder if anyone has tried the Cape Cod Polishing Cloth on Rolex's ceramic bezel insert to remove hairline scratches.

to answer your questions..
cape cod is only to be used on polished surfaces. you can use it on brushed surface as well but then it will lose the brushed grain.
cape cod can polish gold. it is made for silverware and precious metals. it works on steel as well but you got to rub a lot more.
my watches have a tough life. i've quite given up on polishing them now because they get scratched up again the next time i wear it.
i found the shop on Google. you can too since we're not allowed to post links.
-
Cape Cod can remove scratches on polished surfaces but at the same time, it does leave some very light scratches as well because of the fabric material.

not quite true. i found it gives a mirror finish when properly used and buffed off with the right cloth. i could not see any swirls or scratches under a magnifying glass. that or my eyesight is worse than i thought it was...

My experience has been slightly different though. Tried rubbing it gently as well as with some pressure.. there's always some light scratches when reflected against the light.
Can you teach me what technique you use? Do you rub it in a circular motion or in a straight line motion?
-
Can anyone confirm whether cape cod can buff out the swirlies (hairline swirls) on rolex ceramic bezel?
Thanks in advance

there's not much area to do circular. i just rub in straight lines. i think it's important that the buffing cloth used is soft and clean.
